Position Overview:

As an Electrical Engineer specializing in Electric Vehicle Systems Controls and Lithium Battery Integration, you will play a crucial role in advancing the development of our customers' off-highway fully electric or hybrid vehicles for the off-highway market. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing the control systems that govern the performance and efficiency of our electric vehicles. Additionally, you will oversee the integration of advanced lithium battery technologies into our EV platforms, ensuring safety, reliability, and maximum energy utilization.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with peer engineers and end customers to define the purpose and requirements, considering factors like terrain, load, duty cycle, capacity, and range.
  • Collaborate with peer engineers and end customers to determine the size, weight, and layout.
  • Collaborate with peer engineers and end customers to determine the feasibility of electric architecture, fully electric, hybrid, or unfeasible.
  • Run mathematical calculations to determine motor speed, torque, heat generation, voltage requirement, current requirements, and energy requirement.
  • Choose an appropriate electric motor, batteries, power electronics, and control systems.
  • Optimize the powertrain for efficiency and performance.
  • Motor characterization and tuning.
  • Ensure battery specs meet system charging and discharging ratings.
  • Lead the integration of lithium-ion battery packs into our EV platforms, ensuring seamless compatibility with vehicle systems.
  • Implement battery management systems (BMS) to monitor and manage battery health, state-of-charge, and state-of-health.
  • Collaborate with battery suppliers to assess and select appropriate battery technologies for different vehicle models.
  • Develop control algorithms for motor speed, torque, and regenerative braking.
  • Implement safety features like anti-roll protection, anti-stall protection, and stability control.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define control strategies for various vehicle subsystems, including motor drives, power electronics, and thermal management systems.
  • Develop control algorithms, logic, and software to optimize the performance, efficiency, and safety of electric vehicle systems.
  • Experience in vehicle modules communications protocols, such as J1939, CANopen, CAN2.0A(B), CANraw, and ETH.
  • Conduct rigorous testing, data analysis, and troubleshooting to identify and resolve issues.
  • Continuously seek opportunities for innovation and improvement in EV systems and battery integration.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in electric vehicle systems controls and lithium battery integration.
  • Proficiency in control system design, development, and simulation tools.
  • Strong programming skills, with expertise in languages such as C/C++, Codesys, etc.
  • Open to learning proprietary programming languages such as  Danfoss Guide.
  • Familiarity with battery management systems (BMS) and battery technologies.

 

Additional skills that would be a plus:

  • Familiarity with and interest in autonomy software and hardware.
  • Familiarity with various types of sensors, such as Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR), Radio Detection and Ranging (Radar), Cameras, Ultrasonic Sensors, GPS, Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), Ultraviolet Sensors, Pressure Sensors, Sonar, Magnetometers, etc.
  • Familiarity with robotics frameworks such as libraries from ROS, OpenCV, and TensorFlow.
