Description
General
-
Flight Paramedics should be knowledgeable, participate, and promote Acadian/AirMed mission, vision, and goals.
-
Conducts him/herself as a leader, a role model, and a clinical resource.
-
Participates in meetings with the Air Med Management group to include disaster drills, staff meetings, and community/hospital meetings.
-
Identifies areas of concern and communicates with Flight Line Supervisors, Associate Quality Improvement Supervisors, Operations Manager/Supervisor, Chief Flight Nurse, and Quality Improvement Supervisor as necessary.
-
Promotes company health and wellness programs and initiatives.
-
Assists and works with Associate Quality Improvement Supervisors and Flight Line Supervisors as needed.
-
Special project as assigned.
Safety
-
Communicates with Operations Manager/Supervisor and Lead Pilot to assure timely identification of safety issues, reporting, and resolution.
-
Promote and uphold safety standards for self, flight line staff, and patients to include HSE standards.
-
Reports fatigue issues as needed and consults with AMOC/Air Med management.
Performance and Education
-
Conduct a careful examination of the patient for signs and symptoms of illness/injury and assist other medical personnel as necessary.
-
Administer prompt and efficient basic, intermediate, or advanced life support care within the limits of licensure or certification and in accordance with approved protocols prior to and during transport.

Provide careful handling of the patient to and from the air ambulance.
-
Provide safe and efficient transport of the patient in the air ambulance to the medical facility.
-
Provide a safe and efficient transfer of patient and patient care information to the receiving personnel at the destination.
-
Document all aspects of patient condition and treatment on ePCR run reports. Obtains and records non-medical patient information as required. Completes other patient documentation and forms as required.

In the absence of other qualified personnel, responsible for the use of basic extrication tools and procedures to gain access to the patient if necessary.
-
In the absence of other qualified personnel, responsible for controlling the patient's surroundings in such a way as to minimize further danger and control the actions of bystanders.

Follows all FCC regulations when communicating via electronic communications equipment.
-
Completes assigned station and station grounds duties.
-
Complete all required company reports and logs and when necessary provides other ambulance and supervisory personnel with the information.
-
Possibility to be temporarily assigned to a ground ambulance by Flight Line Supervisor, Operations Manager/Supervisor as needed when the aircraft cannot fly.

Must meet and fulfill the qualifications, requirements, functions, and responsibilities of the Emergency Medical Technician-Basic and Intermediate job descriptions.
Equipment/ Supplies

Conduct regular aircraft inventory and equipment testing to ensure all equipment is present, clean, and in proper working order.

Upon completion of transport, responsible for all assigned duties which will place the aircraft and equipment back in service.

Responsible for full knowledge of the ambulance's and air ambulance's equipment and its proper use at all times.

Document and report all needed repairs to the proper maintenance departments (Metro Aviation Personnel for aircraft, Materials Management for medical equipment) as well as to Flight Fine Supervisors and Operations Manager/Supervisor.
Employment Expectations
-
PHTLS, PALS, and NRP are required within 12 months of hire.
-
Advanced Credential CCP-C or FP-C (preferred) within 18 months of hire.
-
Should the CAMTS standard change the FP-C requirement, Air Med reserves the right to change this requirement to maintain the CAMTS standard.
Once the credential is obtained, a copy must be on file in HR and on the employee when on duty.
Air Med employees must have the following current cards in their possession while on duty:

National AND State Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic

BLS/CPR, ACLS Card (AHA guidelines)

Instructor cards will be accepted in lieu of provider cards
Parish or County Certification Card where indicated
Applicable Driver's License
Qualifications
-
High school diploma or GED
-
Body Weight of 210 lbs or less in uniform
-
Must be able to report to the assigned Air Med station within 90 minutes drive time from residence
-
National Registry and appropriate State Paramedic license
-
BLS, ACLS, and a valid driver's license is required
-
Acadian Companies Critical Care Transport Course completion required (Internal Applicants) or other Credentialed Critical Care Course (External applicants) preferred
-
Paramedics –at least three years of experience staffing an Acadian CCT Ambulance as a CCT-Paramedic or proof of the equivalent prior employment history, must be recent experience such as within the last two years

Internal Applicants
-
Strong working knowledge of the CORE protocols and knowledgeable of the use of the CCT equipment.
-
No recent disciplinary actions, QI Issues, or Safety infractions.
-
Alternates must be able to report to the assigned Air Med Station within 90 minutes of drive time.
-
A comprehensive interview to include a written and oral protocol assessment and a practical skills assessment will be given at the interview.
-
A comprehensive work history/QI status review with the candidate's OM/OC/OS/QIC will be conducted prior to the interviews in lieu of a letter of recommendation. The candidate's operations management group's positive recommendation will be required for an interview to be scheduled.
External Applicants
