About the Role:

Join our team as a Senior Lead in Environmental Compliance! Based in WA, you'll oversee environmental compliance for our Southwest mining operations. Reporting to the WA Mining Environmental Manager, you'll manage and improve the Environmental Management System, lead projects, and support site operations.

As a Superintendent, you'll lead a team to maintain compliance, implement new requirements, and provide technical advice. You'll also support site operations and lead environmental improvement projects. This role offers the opportunity to directly impact our environmental performance and ensure effective management of our Environmental Management System.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead compliance and systems team to ensure standard business practices and environmental management systems are implemented across WA Mine sites.

  • Establish and maintain a fit-for-purpose compliance management system using available tools, incorporating evolving approvals and legislative requirements.

  • Drive execution of environmental improvement projects.

  • Lead compliance and systems team to support site-based environmental teams as subject matter experts across all environmental aspects.

  • Drive implementation of environmental improvement projects through stakeholder engagement, training, identification of monitoring and maintenance requirements, documentation, and inclusion of actions/commitments in mining's EMS.

  • Ensure safe execution of work for the team and contractors and participate in safety initiatives as required.

What you can bring to the role:

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • Ideally you will possess an Undergraduate Degree in environmental science or a related field

  • Proven experience environmental management in mining, or a similar industry

  • Ideally expertise in implementing and managing environmental management systems (EMS).

  • Proficiency in conducting environmental compliance audits, and environmental impact assessment methodologies.

  • Ability to analyse environmental data and identify trends.

  • Technical writing: Skill in drafting environmental reports, permits, and plans.

  • Ability to lead and motivate a team.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

About the Location

Huntly is one of our two bauxite mines in Western Australia. Established in 1976 and located east of North Dandalup in WA, it is the world's second largest bauxite mine, supplying ore to Alcoa's Pinjarra alumina refinery.
