About the role: The Commodity Manager – Europe acts as the single point of accountability (working with in a global matrix organization) for managing assigned regional (Europe) commodity management activities.

The Commodity Manager has strategic leadership in the development (including leveraging Alcoa's total indirect spends where appropriate), execution, implementation and performance management of the assigned commodity portfolio/s (and categories). This role includes the development and implementation of those regional/global commodity/category strategies, contracts, processes, and policies.

Working together with the position's supervisor, the position provides overall region leadership in category management and strategy development (consistent with global strategies, where applicable), Best Value Country Sourcing (BVCS), strategic sourcing, commercial innovation, continuous improvement including technology & innovation, TCO analysis, contract management including compliance and deliverables being achieved, utilization, dispute resolution, supply chain management, and performance management at the regional level.

This role will drive competitive advantage by aligning the business strategies to commercial / procurement strategies, ensuring consistency with regional and global business and procurement strategies. The position will work closely (at various levels) with a broad range of stakeholders (including procurement teams, business and operations customers, and third-party suppliers) to ensure congruence between business / location objectives and strategies, to effectively deliver the category management strategy and managing all procurement, supply chain and business risks, reduce total cost of ownership, and deliver to work / program schedules.

In addition, the role has leadership responsibility for operational procurement requirements including (but not limited to) day-to-day contract management and contracts, customer relationship management, supplier relationship management (including performance), and implementation of new contracts. Required background and experience:
  • A bachelor's degree in Strategic Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Purchasing, Business, Engineering or related with relevant experience in Category/Contract Specialist and/or Procurement Specialist;
  • Advanced degree (MBA) preferred;
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering global and regional category strategies in the Mining and Resources industry or similar.
  • Proficiency in English language required;
  • Multiple language knowledge and multiple country experience is beneficial;
  • Strong working knowledge of Procurement and business processes and extensive experience as a Purchasing Manager in heavy industry or similar level.
  • Ability to communicate and influence key stakeholders at all levels of the Alcoa business and external Supplier market.
  • Strong networking skills
