About the role:

As the Mechanical Engineer you will be responsible for providing support on various production equipment and supporting facilities.  This professional will use their mechanical experience and classroom knowledge to preform daily troubleshooting, project design and execution, equipment and service selection and specification. Provide advice and assistance to maintenance personnel to improve uptime and equipment reliability, while adhering to regulatory and Alcoa EHS requirements. Tasks are performed in a “hands on” setting which include, providing on-call response to restore flow and developing and implementing countermeasures to prevent problem recurrence.

  • Providing day-to-day technical advice, problem solving and support the operations and maintenance by utilizing engineering principles & reliability tools to drive problems to root cause.

  • Initiating and/or implementing improvement projects including engineering solutions to eliminate safety and quality concerns, repetitive equipment failures and other major and minor issues.

  • Manage capital and expense project requests, schedules, costs, etc.

  • Create work scope for ad-hoc repair and major overhaul.

  • Ensure compliance of project work with appropriate engineering standards.

  • Identifying and/or implementing new ideas and cost reduction opportunities.

  • Identify and address obsolescence issues with existing equipment.

  • Create, maintain, and update equipment files and drawings.

  • Develop preventative/predictive programs/systems to improve process and equipment performance.

What you can bring to the role:

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering that is recognized by Engineers Australia, with previous experience in maintenance, reliability, heavy industry or plant engineering highly regarded.

  • An understanding of risk management, quality improvement and reliability excellence processes.

  • The ability to communicate at all levels of the organization, crucial within our dynamic and diverse team environment.

  • A sound track record in pro-active problem solving with initiative and a desire to continuously improve business performance.

  • An ability to prioritise a high workload and persevere through daily challenges.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

  • Experience in pumps, thickeners, tanks and other mining machinery will be advantageous.

  • Well-versed in Australian standards.

  • Adequate knowledge in welding procedures.
