Alcoa is seeking a dynamic and strategic Sr. Communications Manager to develop and lead its internal and external communications initiatives in Europe. Reporting to the Sr. Manager, External Affairs, Europe, you will lead a team to drive efforts to effectively communicate Alcoa's brand, mission and values to a broad range of audiences. This role requires a highly skilled communicator with a proven track record of leading successful campaigns, managing media relations, and fostering strong internal communications.  
 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Your team leadership experience will help you to lead communication efforts supervising three site communicators across the continent, provide constructive feedback to employees to enhance employee development and training, while promoting performance culture amongst European plants.  
  • You will lead Alcoa's European operations communications strategy, coordinating Alcoa's Global Communications team for alignment and brand positioning. Assess the effectiveness of internal and external communications, identify areas for improvement, and develop strategies accordingly. 
  • You will manage and supervise Alcoa's brand within the region through proactive external communications. Actions will include managing crisis communications for the regions, local and regional media relations (preparing and distributing press statements, and responding to media inquiries), and contributing to Alcoa's global communications efforts.
  • You will provide strategic counsel to the operations lead team, identify and support communication opportunities for the Regional Vice President of Europe in their communications efforts including driving employee awareness and engagement on business priorities and the VP's role as senior leader in the region. Actions should include identifying and supporting public speaking opportunities, social media management, media interviews and internal communications. 
  • You will lead internal communication initiatives to keep employees informed and engaged by partnering with operational and regional leadership to ensure business objectives are effectively communicated and reach all levels of the organization. Supervise and generate content creation for regional and local workforce, such as newsletters or employee meetings, while also supporting and adding input into global communications channels and support regional Human Resources in promoting Alcoa's employer brand and recruiting efforts.  

What you can bring to the role:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Political Science or a related field (Master's degree preferred). 
  • 8-10 years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, or related roles, preferably within a multinational or industrial sector. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, knowledge of other languages is a plus (Norwegian, Spanish, Icelandic). 
  • Experience managing a team, providing constructive feedback and ensure personal growth of its employees. 
  • Proven ability to develop and execute strategic communications and public affairs initiatives. 
  • Experience in crisis management, media relations, and corporate reputation management. 
  • Ability to manage several projects at once. 
  • Analytical and strategic thinking, long-term vision.
