Senior Member of Technical Staff (SMTS) – Data Engineering (Power & Performance Analytics)

Role Overview

We are seeking an SMTS-level Database / Data Engineer to build and own the foundational data infrastructure for Power and Performance (PnP) analytics across multiple SoC programs.

This role is responsible for consolidating fragmented engineering data—currently spread across PPTs, Excel sheets, Confluence pages, SharePoint repositories, and program-specific artifacts—into a central, scalable, and trusted database.

This is a high-impact, hands-on technical role that enables automation, analytics, and dashboarding across the PnP organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and own a centralized database architecture for Power and Performance data across programs and SoC generations
  • Ingest, normalize, and curate data from diverse and unstructured sources:
    • Excel, CSV, PPT-derived data
    • Confluence and SharePoint repositories
    • Program- or team-specific scripts and data dumps
  • Define and maintain data schemas, metadata, versioning, and lineage
  • Build robust ETL / ELT pipelines with clear refresh cadence, validation, and error handling
  • Ensure data consistency, traceability, and historical tracking
  • Partner closely with PnP engineers, architects, and program managers to:
    • Understand data semantics
    • Translate engineering metrics into structured datasets
  • Enable downstream analytics and dashboarding by delivering clean, reliable, well-documented data
  • Contribute as a technical owner, not just an implementer—making sound design tradeoffs and driving best practices

Required Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on experience in database design and data engineering
  • Expert proficiency in SQL and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, etc.)
  • Proven experience building and maintaining data pipelines for structured and semi-structured data
  • Strong data modeling skills and understanding of data lifecycle management
  • Ability to work with messy, legacy, and unstructured data and convert it into scalable systems
  • Comfortable operating independently with minimal direction in a complex engineering environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to data correctness and integrity

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with dashboarding or visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, Grafana, Looker, etc.)
  • Experience supporting engineering, silicon, or performance-related data
  • Proficiency in Python or scripting for automation and ingestion
  • Exposure to cloud-based or scalable data platforms
  • Familiarity with version control, data documentation, and reproducibility best practices

Expectations

  • Acts as a go-to technical contributor in data engineering for the PnP organization
  • Owns problems end-to-end and drives solutions to completion
  • Makes sound architectural decisions within defined scope
  • Elevates data quality and trust across teams
  • Enables future analytics and dashboarding without being dependent on them

Impact

  • Establishes a single source of truth for Power and Performance data
  • Reduces manual, slide-based, and ad-hoc reporting
  • Accelerates decision-making for engineering and leadership

Lays the foundation for scalable dashboards and analytics
