Power and Performance Engineer

 

The Role:

The System Workload Early Performance Test team is looking for a dynamic and energetic engineer to join our growing team.  You will be joining a team that fosters and encourages continuous technical innovation, showcases successes, and facilitates continuous career development

  • You will be involved in AMD's early server workload test strategies, planning, execution, and analysis for the EPYC products that are used by major OEMs and Cloud Providers
  • Your goal is to execute performance testing on early silicon to validate the system is on track to meet the performance goals of AMD and our customers
  • You will work on test plan and execution for system validation as well as analyze, configure, and propose improvement to current practices to achieve efficient validation methodology for server system validation

 

The Person:

A self-starter with the ability to execute complex test plans independently or with a cross-functional team and collaborate with cross-function teams to debug and resolve issues. You will learn to be hands-on with lab tools and working in a lab environment as well as orchestrating configuration and testing at remote sites. You will be working with lead engineers to learn more about the workloads and test environments.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute workload performance test plans for system level performance validation early in the post-silicon test cycle with a focus on finding issues that may prevent attaining performance goals at production
  • Learn to define, develop, and/or recommend post-silicon validation infrastructure (software, hardware, automation environment, and lab setup)
  • Recommend improvements to AMD's post-silicon performance validation test strategy, methodology, and process
  • Participate in post-silicon debug efforts to identify root cause and resolution of performance issues
  • Be comfortable working in a high demand, fast paced environment with lots of real-time problem solving and critical thinking

 

Required Experience:

  • 5 + years of experiences on workload performance engineer
  • Familiarity of Performance benchmarking of NVMe/SSD driver on Linux platforms.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware architecture (CPU/APU, x86, PCIe, memory) and software architecture (driver, bios, firmware usage) with a focus on what drives performance
    • Understanding of modern x86 microprocessor architecture and Server platform architecture is highly desired
  • Proven ability to work across teams
  • Working multiple concurrent projects
  • Familiarity with programming / scripting language (C/C++, Python, Perl, ...)
  • Experience presenting technical topics
  • Working knowledge of Server OSes and hypervisors (Linux, Windows Server, VMware, KVM, …)
  • Forward thinker that drives improvement to development process, code architecture and fosters a spirit of innovation and continuous improvement
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills
  • Strong Team player

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Test plan and test development experience for a range of industry workloads
  • Debug skills at the system level
  • Debug skills at the SOC level
  • Working knowledge of container environments

 

Academic Credentials:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BS) in EE, CE, CS
