THE ROLE

AMD is seeking a senior system power engineer, providing thought leadership and subject matter expertise to our growing team. As a key contributor, you will have a strong technical background to contribute to all aspects of the innovative system with partners. We have competitive benefit packages and an award-winning culture. Join us!

Based in Shenzhen, this role bridges AMD system design teams with ODM/OEM partners and power component suppliers. The core focus is to surface external technology trends back to the internal team. A key expectation is to identify and evaluate innovation solutions for next-generation products, keeping AMD ahead on subsystem technologies.

THE PERSON

The ideal candidate is a hands-on power engineering specialist with strong expertise in board-level power delivery and system-level platform design. A strong understanding of the power-component ecosystem. You can assess complex technical trade-offs, drive issues to closure, and turn competitive and supplier insights into practical recommendations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be part of the system design team serves as the primary technical bridge for internal and external.
  • Support subsystem solution definition and component selection, ensuring alignment between AMD architecture and ODM/OEM implementation.
  • Evaluate emerging power technologies, solutions, and integration approaches for next-generation AMD platforms
  • Build and maintain good relationships with ODM/OEM teams and component suppliers.
  • Participate in architecture, schematic, layout, BOM, and platform-readiness reviews, with a focus on power-delivery risks and system integration.
  • Investigate x86 and ARM platform power architectures, design trade-offs, and supplier strategies, and communicate actionable findings to AMD engineering and leadership teams.
  • Maintain strong technical knowledge of power controllers, power stages, MOSFETs, passive components, adapters, batteries, and related industry trends.
  • Prepare and deliver clear technical reports, design-review findings, root-cause summaries, and recommendations to both technical and business stakeholders.

REQUESTED EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in DCDC and ACDC power design, platform engineering, system validation, or hardware debugging.
  • Strong knowledge of CPU/GPU platform power delivery map, including multiphase VRMs, point-of-load regulators, sequencing, telemetry, transient response, efficiency, thermal, and protections.
  • Experience using AMD SDLE or equivalent voltage-regulator vendor tools for configuration, telemetry, analysis, and debugging.
  • Good understanding of motherboard architecture, power-management firmware, BIOS interaction, low-power states, and system-level integration.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical investigations and drive complex issues to closure.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Mandarin.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with X86/ARM CPU/GPU platforms, including workstation, desktop, or server products.
  • Experience working directly with major PC ODM/OEM companies
  • Experience in competitive benchmarking and system-level power analysis across x86 and ARM platforms.
  • Willingness to travel as required to support AMD engineering teams, ODM/OEM partners, and component suppliers.
