THE ROLE
This role leads all public relations activities for AMD in Japan across data center, client, graphics, and embedded products. The PR Manager drives local communications strategy and execution, including product launches, review programs, media engagement, and executive visibility, working closely with a PR agency, Japanese media, and influencers. Reporting to the APJ & Japan Communications Lead, the role shapes AMD's reputation in Japan by ensuring messaging is culturally relevant, aligned with global priorities, and well coordinated with local sales, marketing, and global communications teams.
THE PERSON:
The ideal candidate is a proactive PR professional with strong knowledge of the Japanese media landscape and understanding in technology such as AI, data center, PC, and gaming. They are confident engaging directly with Japanese press and influencers, skilled at balancing global direction with local execution, and comfortable advising stakeholders on globally aligned and culturally appropriate messaging. Native level in Japanese and business level in English, they are highly organized, collaborative, detail oriented, and focused on delivering strong, measurable media coverage and relationships.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and execute PR programs in Japan to support product launches, New Product Review Programs (NPRP), and ongoing awareness across AMD's portfolio
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Japanese media, as well as bloggers and content creators
- Act as a key point of contact for local media inquiries, briefings, and interview opportunities
- Manage end-to-end review programs, including product seeding, media briefings, and coverage tracking
- Localize global messaging and materials to ensure relevance, clarity, and cultural appropriateness for the Japan market
- Partner with APJ Communications, HQ Product PR, Corporate Communications, and local sales and marketing teams to align priorities and execution
- Develop local PR campaigns, media events, and executive engagements in Japan
- Manage external PR agency partners to deliver against agreed objectives and KPIs
- Monitor media coverage, industry trends, and competitor activity in Japan; provide insights and recommendations to internal stakeholders
- Support issues management and ensure all communications adhere to AMD policies and guidelines
- Track, measure, and report PR performance, including coverage quality, sentiment, and impact
- Collaborate with ecosystem partners (OEMs, ODMs, system integrators, ISVs) to amplify AMD messaging in the local market
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Proven experience in PR, communications, or media relations, ideally within technology or related industries
- Strong understanding of the Japanese media landscape and established media relationships preferred
- Experience working with global teams and adapting global messaging for local markets
- Experience managing PR agencies and external partners
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail
- Native-level Japanese and business level in English (written and spoken)
