THE ROLE: We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Senior Software System Designer to join our Software Systems Design Engineering team. In this role, you will contribute to the system software that enables AMD's next‑generation products across computer graphics, display technologies, compute, virtual reality, and embedded platforms. You will work on complex system‑level challenges, including embedded Linux enablement, boot flow optimization, board support packages, power management, drivers, and virtualization. This is a high‑visibility role offering the opportunity to collaborate across hardware, firmware, and software teams while influencing product quality, performance, and time‑to‑market. As a senior team member, you are comfortable mentoring others, sharing knowledge, and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and on‑time delivery. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and develop embedded Linux system software for AMD platforms and products
- Analyze and optimize Linux boot flow and boot‑time performance
- Develop and maintain board support package components, Linux kernel features, and device drivers
- Improve system behavior related to power management, device initialization, deferred probes, interrupts, DMA, and IPC
- Implement and tune Yocto Project images, recipes, and systemd configurations
- Debug complex kernel, driver, and platform integration issues across hardware and software boundaries
- Collaborate with architecture, firmware, hardware, validation, and product teams to define and deliver solutions
- Support virtualization enablement in embedded Linux environments
- Drive delivery of production‑quality system software through strong ownership and execution
- Mentor team members to support technical growth and on‑time project delivery
- Demonstrated experience with embedded Linux system software and kernel development
- Strong background in Linux boot flow internals and boot‑time optimization
- Hands‑on experience with the Yocto Project, including images, recipes, and systemd tuning
- Experience with virtualization technologies such as Xen, KVM, or exposure to QNX Hypervisor
- Proficiency in C programming and kernel‑level debugging
- Knowledge of initcall ordering, deferred probes, IPC, DMA, and interrupt handling
- Experience delivering production‑quality system software
- Familiarity with embedded BSPs, power management, and device drivers
- Strong problem‑solving skills and cross‑team collaboration experience
