THE ROLE:

At AMD, we are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Lab Technician to support the operations of the newly established AFX Farm Lab. This role is essential in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our AFX systems and lab infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, organized, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced hardware/software development environment.

 

THE PERSON:

The successful applicant will collaborate with cross-functional teams, maintaining AFX hardware, ensuring timely support for test and debug activities during new product introductions. Key qualifications include:

  • Familiarity with Windows and Linux file systems
  • Basic scripting knowledge (e.g., bash, Python)
  • Experience in maintaining electronic hardware and lab equipment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data entry, filtering, basic formulas)
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation practices
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks with minimal supervision
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Lab Operations & Inventory Management
  • Manage monthly PCard purchases and expense tracking.
  • Order, receive, label, and store MBs, DC cards, and devices.
  • Track and log all hardware inventory activities in a group-accessible Excel record.
  • Register and manage user access to devices and systems.
  • Maintain lab organization and readiness for annual safety and ESD inspections.
  • Coordinate instrument calibration schedules and documentation.
  1. AFX Farm System Management
  • Assemble and set up new AFX Farm configurations with DC cards and devices.
  • Decommission setups when no longer in use.
  • Maintain ~50 AFX Farm machines, including rebooting and troubleshooting panel PCs.
  • Perform device swaps and hardware refreshes as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and debug basic electronic system issues.
  1. Technical Support & Scripting
  • Operate within both Windows and Linux file systems.
  • Write and run simple scripts for system automation or monitoring.
  • Provide basic debugging and log collection support for AFX systems.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior lab management or hardware technician experience
  • Knowledge of ESD compliance and lab safety procedures
  • Experience supporting system bring-up and device-level troubleshooting
  • Hands-on experience with prototype bring-up and testing, including board-level validation, wire bonding, and soldering/rework tasks

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree or equivalent certificate in computer engineering/electrical engineering
