THE ROLE:
AMD is searching for talented and motivated individuals to support our open-source, GPU-compute language runtime of the AMD ROCm™ platform. As part of the Language Runtime group in AMD AI GPU Software, you will help build the core compute language runtime powering artificial intelligence, machine learning and high-performance computing applications across workstations, data centers, and supercomputers. This role also involves direct collaboration with customers to understand their requirements, troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, and ensure successful deployment of AMD technologies.
THE PERSON:
You are passionate about building robust, high-performance runtime systems that enable cutting-edge AI, ML and HPC workloads. You thrive in collaborative, distributed teams and communicate effectively with peers and customers. With a strong foundation in systems programming and runtime architecture, you excel at solving complex technical challenges and optimizing performance at scale. You are detail-oriented, proactive, and eager to innovate in the GPU compute ecosystem.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, develop, and optimize GPU language runtime components for AMD ROCm™ platform
- Collaborate with AMD architecture specialists to influence future hardware and runtime features
- Implement and maintain core runtime functionalities such as memory management, scheduling, and concurrency
- Apply a data-driven approach to identify and target performance bottlenecks in runtime systems
- Stay informed of software and hardware trends, especially in runtime technologies, algorithms, and architecture
- Participate in new ASIC and hardware bring-ups, ensuring runtime compatibility and performance
- Debug and resolve runtime-related issues, including customer-reported problems, and research alternative, more efficient solutions
- Interface directly with customers to understand requirements, resolve technical challenges, and ensure successful deployment
- Develop and maintain strong technical relationships with peers, partners, and customers
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Strong background in systems programming and runtime development, with proficiency in C/C++
- Experience building and optimizing language runtimes, memory management, and concurrency models
- Familiarity with GPU programming paradigms (HIP, CUDA, or OpenCL) and heterogeneous compute environments
- Knowledge of performance tuning techniques for high-throughput, low-latency systems
- Experience with modern concurrent programming and threading APIs
- Hands-on experience with Windows and Linux operating system internals and development
- Proficiency with software development tools such as debuggers, profilers, and source control systems (Git/GitHub)
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interface directly with customers and cross-functional teams
- Collaborative mindset with a passion for enabling AI and HPC workloads through efficient runtime solutions
