THE ROLE:
This is a specialized engineering position responsible for Product Engineering program technical planning for next-generation AMD microprocessors. This individual serves as a critical technical point of contact to the business, design, platform validation and product engineering teams. THE PERSON:
You will provide technical supervision or mentoring to junior engineers and influence others as a subject matter expert. A successful candidate is one who can drive technical decisions independently, has accountability for accuracy, reliability and completeness of assignment results critical to the project's success. This role allows the opportunity to influence technical decisions that have a significant impact on multiple products or the product line.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Optimized PCB Fabrication & Assembly:
Partnered with EMS suppliers to improve DFM/DFA, increasing production yield and reducing assembly defects.
Led troubleshooting of PCBA failures and process issues, ensuring timely resolution and minimal impact on schedules. - Ensured Factory Capability & Compliance:
Assessed machine and process capabilities against AMD server product requirements; drove ODM/EMS to close gaps and meet quality standards. - Design Collaboration for Quality:
Worked with Design Engineering and CAD teams to resolve DFM issues, enabling smooth validation and silicon bring-up. - Technology Deployment Leadership:
Directed cross-functional teams to implement new manufacturing technologies aligned with NPI build timelines. - ODM Co-Development & Training:
Developed training programs and guided ODM Manufacturing Engineers to achieve AMD project goals from design through production. - Tooling & Fixture Management:
Reviewed and approved manufacturing jigs, fixtures, and tooling for production readiness. - Risk Assessment & Rework Support:
Conducted manufacturing risk assessments for product builds and supported rework activities to maintain quality. - Deliverables & Yield Assurance:
Delivered all manufacturing-related documentation to ODM factories; ensured yields met AMD's minimum requirements. - Issue Resolution:
Collaborated with ODM process engineers to resolve manufacturing issues promptly, minimizing downtime and cost impact.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- PCBA & System Manufacturing Expertise: Deep knowledge of SMT, reflow, wave soldering, and general system assembly processes.
- NPI Leadership: Experience managing the new product introduction lifecycle from design to mass production ramp-up.
- DFM/DFA Tools Proficiency: Hands-on experience using Valor and Vayo software for Design for Manufacturing and Assembly analysis, which is highly valued for early issue mitigation.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Ability to work closely with various departments (design, R&D, quality, supply chain) to drive resolutions and achieve results.
- Strong Communication: Good presentation skills and experience providing concise management summaries.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelor's or Master's in computer engineering or computer science or electrical engineering, or comparable disciplines.
