The Position:

Reporting to the Technical & Project Manager – Western Canada, the Designer / Draftsperson will be responsible for providing design and drafting support for mechanical components, structures and systems. The ideal candidate must be experienced, determined and influential. They require a broad strategic perspective and proven track record of success in Technical Projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Research, design and develop mechanical design and drawings for bearing, power transmission, and rotating equipment (pumps, motors, etc.) components and systems

  • Perform detailed design and 3D modelling of the mechanical systems and components such as gearboxes, bearings, chains, belts, pumps, motors, material handling, and other mechanical systems (including mechanical structures, supports and mountings)

  • Produce fabrication and manufacturing drawings using CAD tools as part of the handover package to the shop and field services network (or vendors)

  • Oversee technical projects to ensure documentation and quality standards are met.

  • Help drive initiatives and results to achieve Technical Services priorities & targets.

  • Take ownership of the development of solutions from concept to completion.

  • Stay up to date on the latest technologies while looking for opportunities to enhance Applied's product and service offerings.

  • Review technical opportunities and take on as required.

  • Coach others in the technologies to help them advance their skills & knowledge.

  • Documenting value added services for opportunities and solutions provided to the customer

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Post secondary education in Mechanical Engineering

  • P. Eng, CET, or other certification is an asset

  • 5-10+ years of experience in providing mechanical design and drafting in industrial applications for oil and gas, agriculture, pulp and paper, forestry, mining, chemical processing, food processing, and aggregate customers

  • Proficiency in design and drafting (3D modelling) using Inventor 3D

  • Microsoft office tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint is a must.

  • MS project knowledge would be an asset.

  • Proven leadership skills and coaching abilities

  • Collaborative and able to develop/maintain relationships with ease inside & outside the organization

  • Ability to quickly analyze unique situations, solve problems, determine risk and impact on projects

  • Strong ability to deal with several projects simultaneously with a strong sense of urgency and ability meet absolute deadline

  • Ability to communicate detailed information, frequently involving project needs and wants at all levels of the business

  • Willingness and ability to travel as required (less than 25%)
