Position Summary
The Associate Director of Access Services supervises and the Disability Resource Center¿s Access and Front Desk Teams and oversees all aspects of intake and access meetings. This role provides necessary leadership and ensures students with disabilities move through the intake and access meeting process smoothly to reduce and mitigate disability barriers. This position also ensures both teams are accurately following procedures, provides leadership and direction in consultation with the Director on procedure and makes decisions based on awareness of the ADA and Section 504 as they apply to higher education. This position carries a caseload and works directly with students to identify appropriate accommodations to mitigate disability barriers.
Pay, Benefits & Work SchedulePosition Salary Range: $70,037/year - $98,052/year
The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Typically, new hires start no higher than $77,041/year based on Bellevue College Exempt salary schedule.

The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which means that you are not eligible for overtime pay.

About the DepartmentThe Disability Resource Center provides disability accommodations to disabled students according to federal and state law. This ensures that disabled students have equal access to all of the services and benefits of education at Bellevue College. The Disability Resource Center reports to the Dean of Student Support in the Student Affairs division.
The program serves as a reference for Bellevue College faculty and staff, offering information and training in disability, disability justice related issues, and promoting inclusion in academics, the workplace, and in the community.
Essential FunctionsLeadership and Supervision of Access Specialist and Front Desk Teams
- Directly supervise Full time staff positions which currently include: Mental Health Access Specialist, Assistive Technology Access Specialist, Program Manager, Front Desk Program Assistant, and Front Desk/ Testing Program Assistant
- Provide daily feedback to direct reports, have regular check ins, provide formal evaluations yearly
- Manage all job descriptions, task lists, evaluations and other relevant employee documents for team
- Provide team leadership for the Access Specialist Team; be the subject matter expert for Access Meetings for the team
- Develop and maintain Access Specialist training plan and ongoing Professional Development for all Access Specialists
- Provide team leadership for the Front Desk team, manage all supervision and aspects of student intake process.
- Hold Access Specialist team meetings
- Hold Front Desk team meetings
- Ensure effective communication between Accommodations team, Front Desk Team and Access Specialist team
- Bring issues, ideas and innovative practice ideas from Access Specialist team and Front Desk team to director for consideration
- Assist Director in implementation and assessment of new procedures and practices
- Assume all responsibilities of the Director in the Director¿s absence
Access Meetings and Case Management
- Meet with students with a wide variety of disabilities and access barriers to determine accommodations
- Determine reasonable accommodations utilizing student self-report, professional judgement, and medical or educational records
- Appropriately document all student interactions in the MyDRC/ Accessible Information Management database
- Communicate with students regarding their accommodations, the accommodation request process, and the procedures for using accommodations
- Communicate with faculty regarding appropriate implementation of accommodations in the classroom
- Resolve accommodation issues between students and faculty and consult with the Director when appropriate
- Refer students to other campus resources using a warm handoff method
- Communicate with Conduct Officer, TIX office, CARE Team, Student Support Dean, and others regarding student situations when appropriate
Outreach and Classroom Presentations
- Work directly with Welcome Center staff to ensure information about the DRC is accurate; present to any groups requesting Disability Services specific information on tours, etc.
- Work with Running Start/ High School Programs staff to ensure information about the DRC is included in information sessions and is accurate
- Present to classes when faculty request; ensure faculty are aware of the potential for classroom presentations
- Staff and serve as a DRC representative for campus Discovery Days and other events for recruitment; ensure materials are updated and accurate
Collaboration with other student services/ campus resources
- Build and maintain collaborations and connections with Occupational Life Skills, Neurodiversity Navigators, Basic and Transitional Studies, Stem to Stern, and other educational programs to ensure smooth referrals to and from the DRC
- Attend CARE Team in absence of Director and/or Mental Health Access Specialist and as needed
- Attend DRC/TIX meetings in absence of Director and/or Mental Health Access Specialist and as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Master's degree in higher education, social work, human services, psychology, disability services, disability studies or related degree or equivalent employment experience. Any combination of relevant education and/or experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis
- Three (3) or more years experience determining and providing accommodations in a higher education environment
- Five (5) or more years experience working with disabled people
- One (1) or more years experience supervising employees
- Understanding of Federal and State disability laws and policy related to higher education e.g. Section 504 of Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, ADA Amendments Act of 2008, Fair Housing Act, settled and current case law, Office for Civil Rights decisions and settlements, Washington Administrative Code, etc.)
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Effective organization skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty from diverse backgrounds
- Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Demonstrated ability to use computer for data entry, web applications, searching the internet, and troubleshooting basic computer issues
- Understanding of disability from a social model, social justice model, and or Disability Justice perspective
- Experience working with Neurodivergent students or clients
- Experience working with students or clients with mental health disabilities
- Experience providing outreach or trainings related to disability services, Disability Justice, the Social Model of Disability or similar
