Position Summary
The DMA program seeks a dedicated and motivated individual to provide engagement, and discipline expertise to students for professional industry training. As a part-time faculty member in DMA, the successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to student success through teaching and learning excellence. The selected candidate will perform duties and functions with the support of the program chair of DMA and will be directly responsible to the Division Dean of the Institute for Business and Information Technology.
Note that these are temporary faculty positions, typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment.

Quarterly remuneration for 5-credit lecture class is $6050.02 - $7375.17. Compensation is prorated based on type and duration of assignments. Individuals newly hired to Adjunct Professor group at the college are placed at the minimum rate per union bargaining agreement. Certain positions may also be eligible for assignment/project-based additional compensation, including a High Demand Stipend up to $8,350 annually, prorated based on the discipline and duration of the assignment. All additional compensations are subject to change depending on funding and negotiated agreement.
Generous benefits package for eligible employees is offered through Washington State plans that includes multiple medical, dental, life and disability coverage choices for employees and dependents; choices of retirement and deferred compensation plans; paid personal leave plan; transit program, reduced tuition, employee discounts and memberships, etc. Eligible employees are faculty who work a combined load of at least 50% at Bellevue College and other Washington State public institutions of higher education for two consecutive quarters are eligible for health and dental insurance at the start of the second consecutive quarter.
Part-time faculty with 50% or more load is represented by the Bellevue College Association of Higher Education (BCAHE) union.

About the DepartmentThe Institute for Business and Information Technology (IBIT) encompasses both Instructional and Professional/Technical degree and certificate options crossing multiple program areas. IBIT serves a diverse student population which has wide-ranging interests focusing on academic preparation to career progression and encompassing high-school students to adult learners. This often provides for and creates a rich course participant experience, though can often also add to the demands for successful course outcomes.
Professional/Technical programs often experience a wide range of student abilities from at-risk to advanced, along with sometimes shortened cycles of impact with students due to either completion of certificates or the securing of employment during the program. This places additional demands and pressures on faculty in these programs while also adding significant value to students by way of opportunity creation for them in challenging economic times.
The Digital Media Arts (DMA) program is one of five professional-technical programs within the institute and offers an Associate's degree featuring student-selected concentrations. Students are prepared for entry-level positions in graphic design, game design, 3D art and design, video/film, UX/UI design, and motion graphics.
- Directing student learning in assigned courses. Establishing and assessing student learning outcomes.
- Advising of students.
- Meeting accreditation requirements.
- Maintaining current knowledge and skills in areas of assignment.
- Engaging in professional development and/or certification activities.
- Building collaborative relationships within the Bellevue College community,
- Fostering a positive, caring learning environment in which diversity and pluralism are valued.
As teaching assignments, the individual is responsible for courses that may include but are not limited to beginning to intermediate Graphic Design and Motion Graphics, Game Design, 3D Art & Design, Video Production, Storytelling, or Project Management offered in on-campus, hybrid, and online learning environments.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a related field
- Advanced skills in at least one of the following areas: Graphic Design, Motion Graphics, Game Design, 2D Illustration, UI/UX, 3D Art & Design, Video Production, Storytelling, or Project Management
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to connect and build relationships with students and colleagues from varied ethnicities, ages, backgrounds, learning styles, and abilities
- Experience in college level instruction or adult learners
- Awareness of current industry trends in the digital media arts
- Demonstrated ability to effectively teach in traditional, hybrid and fully online environments
- Demonstrated experience working collegially with diverse colleagues in a collaborative and inclusive manner
- Awareness of teaching and learning theory, and an openness to educational innovation
