Position Summary
The Computer Science Department is seeking highly motivated and versatile professionals and students to join our team as Coding Competition Student Coordinators. This dynamic role encompasses a range of responsibilities, including problem creation, content creation for the platform, and managing the questions & answers section on Discord platform. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to contribute to the success of our coding competitions, ensuring a positive experience for participants.
Pay, Benefits & Work SchedulePay rate: $18.68/hour - $24.70/hour.
The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Typically, new hire starts no higher than $20/hour based on Bellevue College hourly salary schedule.
The successful candidate is expected to work 35 hours per week over a 3-4 week period within the quarter (excluding weekends). Additionally, candidates must be available on the competition day from 9AM to 5 PM. This position typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment.
The temporary hourly employment is limited to the earlier of 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months beginning from the original date of hire. Per WAC 357-04-045, following 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months, an individual is not eligible for re-employment at Bellevue College in another temporary part-time hourly position. Temporary hourly employees who work more than three hundred fifty (350) hours in a twelve consecutive month period may be subject to provisions of one the collective bargaining agreements covering Classified employees at Bellevue College.
This position is expected to NOT be eligible for benefits because eligibility is limited only to employees working at least an average of 80 hours in eligible employment for more than 6 consecutive months and at least 8 hours a month.

About the DepartmentThe Computer Science department is compromised of the Computer Science Transfer and the 4-year Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree program. Bellevue College is the first community and technical college in Washington State to offer a traditional, four-year Bachelor of Science degree. The Computer Science program has a proven track record of preparing students for a career in computer science through individualized support, relevant curriculum, and a focus on student job placement after graduation.
Essential FunctionsEssential functions include:
Develop coding problems:
- Design engaging and challenging coding problems suitable for participants.
- Craft detailed problem statements, input/output specifications, and test cases.
- Ensure problems adhere to competition guidelines and standards.
Content Facilitator:
- Develop informative and user-friendly content for the platform website.
- Create instructional videos to guide participants on using the competition platform effectively.
- Collaborate with the team to maintain and update platform documentation.
Discussion Moderator:
- Monitor the Discord channel dedicated to participant queries.
- Provide prompt and accurate responses to participant questions.
- Collaborate with other coordinators to escalate and resolve complex issues.
- Maintain a positive and supportive atmosphere within the community.
- Strong problem-solving skills and proficiency in programming languages.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Prior experience in organizing or participating in coding competitions is a plus.
