Position Summary  

Reporting to the Director of Housing, the Residence Life Coordinator plays an integral role in the educational value added in on-campus living, including planning and coordinating student activities, fostering community development and accountability, supporting the Director of Housing and Director of Student Care and Community Standards with behavior intervention and the adjudication of student disciplinary cases, and providing ongoing resource referrals and academic support initiatives for students. 

The position will have authority to recruit, hire, schedule, supervise, develop, and evaluate the work of eight (8) student Resident Assistants (RAs). Additionally, the position will have limited budgetary oversight for discretionary spending on student activities, will serve in an on-call duty rotation, respond to crises and emergencies as needed, and may support other business and operations tasks within the Housing department and the Student Life and Leadership unit of Student Affairs. Further, the position will support the Housing operational plan, the Student Affairs operational plan, and the larger Bellevue College institutional strategic plan. The Residence Life Coordinator is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).

This position requires the incumbent to reside in a Residence Hall as a condition of employment.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Position Salary Range: $59,795/year - $83,713/year

The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Typically, new hires start no higher than $65,775/year based on Bellevue College Exempt salary schedule.

The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This position may be eligible for overtime under the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Positions with salaries below the WA State Salary Threshold is eligible for overtime pay.

About the Department  

Bellevue College Housing serves residents that live in suite and apartment style housing.  The department consists of multiple full-time staff members, paraprofessional staff and hourly staff. The campus residence hall is open year-round and also supports conference and short-term guest housing.  As part of the Student Affairs division, Housing is focused on centering student needs in its operational protocols and fostering a community focused on assisting students to achieve their academic and personal goals.

Essential Functions  

Student Development

  • Build positive relationships with residents and regularly provide both support and resources to residents as needed.
  • Encourage students to develop, articulate, and reflect upon their personal identities and values, the impact of their behaviors on others, and their role as a member of a diverse, active, educational community. 
  • Oversee the Residential Curriculum, Housing's residential education model, within the Residence Hall.  
  • Analyze, design, develop, implement, and assess learning outcomes in the Residence Hall, as outlined in the Residential Curriculum, with particular emphases on resident academic success, personal development, and conflict management skills. 
  • Support the development, implementation, and enforcement of policies in the Residence Hall with a focus on equity, developmental education, restorative justice, and community well-being. 
  • Advise student groups and organizations within the Residence Hall and provide educational leadership opportunities for student leaders. 
  • Facilitate the quarterly Housing Quality of Life assessment survey and use data to continuously improve housing experience for students. 
  • Ensure that Resident Assistants (RAs) complete the quarterly roommate agreement process. 
  • Mediate interpersonal conflicts related to both residents and student staff members. 
  • Provide sensitive, responsive, well-informed, and equity-minded guidance and resource referrals to housing residents. 
  • Serve as a Bellevue College Conduct Officer and member of the CARE (Behavioral Intervention) Team. 

Supervision and Training

  • Recruit, hire, place, and evaluate the work of eight (8) student Resident Assistants (RAs). 
  • Develop and enforce clear and consistent job duties and expectations for supervisees. 
  • Provide ongoing training and support to all supervisees. 
  • With the support of the Director of Housing, coordinate, implement, and assess a comprehensive pre-move-in staff training program. 
  • Co-facilitate all Housing Team meetings and facilitate weekly RA one-on-ones. 
  • Develop and implement operating procedures, work plans, and ongoing professional development opportunities for RAs. 
  • Regularly evaluate RA staff performance. 
  • Resolve grievances amongst student employees and take corrective action as needed.

Administrative Support

  • Attend and participate in department, staff, unit, division, and committee meetings. 
  • Co-facilitate all move-in and move-out processes with the Director of Housing and other Housing professional staff.
  • Assist in front desk/customer service operations, as needed. 
  • Participate in after-hours and weekend on-call duty rotation and respond to campus and student housing community emergencies as needed. 
  • Support campus student recruitment and retention efforts. 
  • Assist in the development and implementation of conference and guest housing services and initiatives. 
  • Co-administer, along with Housing Operations Coordinator and Director of Housing, Bellevue College's Housing Management Software (currently eRezLife), including entering and tracking student data, running reports, and creating and maintaining RA logs and other forms. 
  • Develop effective, professional relationships with campus and community partners for the benefit of students living on-campus, including the Office of International Education, Athletics, Student Programs, Student Conduct, Title IX, Counseling, Public Safety, and others.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications  
  • Master's degree in higher education, student personnel administration or related field. Relevant work experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • One (1) year of experience in higher education housing and/or residence life.
  • Experience planning and implementing events, activities, and/or learning experiences for diverse constituents.
  • Effective verbal, written, and customer service communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership skills including ethics and integrity, problem-solving, conflict management, and decision-making.
  • Ability to work evening, weekend and holiday on-call duties, as well as emergency response to critical incidents in on-campus after hours.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification and completion of Title IX, hazing prevention and opioid overdose response trainings within 90 days of hire.
  • This is a 12-month live-in residence hall position.
Preferred Qualifications  
  • One (1) year of supervision experience. 
  • Experience working with living/learning and/or theme communities. 
  • Experience investigating and/or adjudicating student conduct.
