Position Summary  

The Student Affinity Coordinators support designated Program Leads or Directors and their respective student demographic, assist in managing their respective affinity space (if applicable), celebrate culture and heritage, promote identity development, raise awareness, and build community by planning and hosting events supporting students from traditionally underserved populations, and collaborating with other affinity coordinators, all while upholding the College' s Affirmation of Inclusion.

This position provides opportunities for students to develop leadership and event management skills in a supportive and collaborative environment.

We are seeking students who are interested in serving the following affinity groups. The term of employment for this position is Fall 2024 through Spring 2025.

  • Asian-Pacific Islander Students Affinity Coordinator
  • Black Students Affinity Coordinator
  • Latinx Students Affinity Coordinator
  • LGBTQ+ Students Affinity Coordinator
  • Veteran Students Affinity Coordinator
  • International Student Affinity Coordinator
Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Pay rate: $19.00/hour

The successful candidate is expected to work 10-19 hours per week. This position typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment. 

The temporary hourly employment is limited to the earlier of 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months beginning from the original date of hire. Per WAC 357-04-045, following 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months, an individual is not eligible for re-employment at Bellevue College in another temporary part-time hourly position. Temporary hourly employees who work more than three hundred fifty (350) hours in a twelve consecutive month period may be subject to provisions of one the collective bargaining agreements covering Classified employees at Bellevue College.  

This position is expected to NOT be eligible for benefits because eligibility is limited only to employees working at least an average of 80 hours in eligible employment for more than 6 consecutive months and at least 8 hours a month. Eligible positions are eligible for certain benefits.

Essential Functions  
  • Community Building and Support 
    - Assist in providing more resources for all identity-based groups. 
    - Create and maintain an inclusive space for students.  
    - Support advocacy efforts on behalf of their respective student affinity group, promote cultural events, and foster inclusion.  
    - Help identify and assist students who seek resources, have questions, concerns, or who need general assistance. Refer students as necessary to appropriate professional staff.  
    - Work collaboratively with other student affinity coordinators, student employees, professional staff, and the broader Bellevue College community. 
     
  • Event Planning and Management 
    - Assist in planning, promoting and hosting events throughout the academic year that support their respective affinity group.  
    - Work with the supervisor to support the development of learning outcomes for events and activities; assist in evaluating events and initiatives to improve community engagement.  
    - Collaborate on project plans and adhere to mutually agreed -upon project timelines according to expected timelines and get approval from supervisor for each event. 
    - Submit event and activity related requests and paperwork according to the College's timelines.  
    - Support other departmental programming when applicable. 
     
  • Administrative Tasks 
    - Maintain open and consistent communication with their respective supervisor.  
    - Attend student leadership training. 
    - Assist in Monitoring the Services and Activities (S&A) Fee budget with their respective supervisor.  
    - Assist in the preparation for the next fiscal year 's S&A budget.  
    - Assist in managing their respective affinity space. 
    - Track student engagement with resources and events.  
    - Respond to in-person, electronic, and phone questions and concerns in a welcoming and inclusive manner.  
    - Maintain an inventory of resources for their respective affinity populations.  
    - Participate in staff meetings and supervisory meetings.  
     
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications  
  • At the time of hire, students must: 
  • Be enrolled in at least 7 credits at Bellevue College (except Summer) 
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 
  • Be in good standing with Student Conduct 
  • Be able to remain in their position for the full academic year (Summer 2024 through Spring 2025).

While in the position, students must: 

  • Be enrolled in at least 7 credits at Bellevue College (except Summer)
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and not fall below a 2.5 quarterly GPA for more than one consecutive quarter
  • Remain in good standing with Student Conduct
