Position Summary
The Student Assistant serves as the first point of contact for the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs. This position supports daily operations by staffing the reception area, greeting visitors, answering phones, assisting with administrative tasks, and ensuring a welcoming and professional environment. The ideal candidate is courteous, dependable, detail-oriented, and committed to upholding the values and mission of Student Affairs.
Pay, Benefits & Work SchedulePay rate: $18.68/hour- $24.70/hour
The successful candidate is expected to work 10-19 hours per week. This position typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment. Typically, new hire starts no higher than $18.75 / hour.
This position is expected to NOT be eligible for benefits. Student employees are entitled to begin accruing paid sick leave from the start of their employment.

About the DepartmentStudent Affairs is a collection of departments that support students throughout their involvement with the college, beginning with interest at BC (Bellevue College) through graduation and beyond.
There are 19 departments in Student Affairs organized in four functional units: Enrollment Management, Student Care, Student Life, and Student Support.
Student Affairs provides student-driven services and support through equitable and accessible practices, engages with and advocates for all populations, responds to the unique individual needs of each student, and promotes an exceptional service experience.
Customer Service
- Welcome and assist students, staff, and visitors in a warm, inclusive, and professional manner.
- Provide positive customer service experience to help create and maintain an environment that is respectful, inclusive, and supportive of all identities and backgrounds.
- Build positive relationships with students, staff, and members of the campus community.
- Provide information, answer questions, and identify needs of those seeking assistance at the front desk.
- Refer students to appropriate departments or professional staff for specialized support.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of general campus resources, services, and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with other student assistants, professional staff in Student Engagement, and colleagues across the campus.
- Complete required training on FERPA and Title IX and uphold all confidentiality policies and campus protocols.
Administrative Support
- Arrive promptly for scheduled shifts and proactively communicate any changes or scheduling conflicts.
- Manage the reception area, including answering phone calls, directing inquiries, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
- Handle in-person and phone interactions with professionalism and a welcoming attitude.
- Follow campus financial procedures when assisting with sales transactions or processing payments.
- Maintain clear and regular communication with the supervisor and Director of Student Engagement.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required or requested by supervisor.
- Currently enrolled in at least 7 credits at Bellevue College.
- Be in good academic standing.
- While in the position:
- Be enrolled in at least 7 credits at Bellevue College each quarter (except summer).
- Maintain a GPA of 2.5 or greater.
- Remain in good standing with the College as far as Student Conduct
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Punctual, reliable, and professional in demeanor and appearance.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general office equipment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate discretion in handling sensitive matters.
Previous customer service or administrative experience.
