Position Summary
The Student Assistant will be an active member of the Computer Science Team, primarily assisting Bachelor of Science in Computer Science students in various course offerings such as CS 300, CS 331, and CS 401.
Pay, Benefits & Work SchedulePay range: $18.68- $24.70/hour
The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Typically, new hire starts no higher than $20/hour based on Bellevue College hourly salary schedule.
The successful candidate is expected to work no more than 5-19 hours per week on campus combined with other student employment roles if applicable, hours flexible with student schedules.
This position is expected to NOT be eligible for benefits. Student employees are entitled to begin accruing paid sick leave from the start of their employment.

About the DepartmentThe Computer Science department is compromised of the Computer Science Transfer and the 4-year Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree program. Bellevue College is the first community and technical college in Washington State to offer a traditional, four-year Bachelor of Science degree. The Computer Science program has a proven track record of preparing students for a career in computer science through individualized support, relevant curriculum, and a focus on student job placement after graduation.
Essential Functions- Conduct one- to two-hour recitation sessions per week (2 hours).
- Lead class discussions and answer student questions in person or virtually via Microsoft Teams or Zoom (2 hours).
- Attend weekly faculty meetings to provide feedback to instructors on student progress and needs for excellence in teaching and learning (1 hour).
- Current BC student admitted to the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science program.
- Must have completed the course in a prior quarter or year.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills. Effective telephone answering skills.
- Dependable, reliable with a friendly and welcoming attitude.
- Effective customer service skills, remain professional and follow department and BC policies.
- Ability to work with students and staff from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Ability to multi-task in an environment with possible ongoing interruptions.
- Ability to work independently and practice independent judgment.
- Resourceful, with the ability to locate and provide information.
- Experience working with Microsoft Office programs, especially Outlook at intermediate level.
