Position Summary
The Veterans Outreach and Support Specialist works within the Veterans Resource Center (VRC) at Bellevue College. This position supports the mission of the college by providing high-quality, flexible, and accessible services that promote student access to educational opportunities, while advancing pluralism, inclusion, and global awareness.
Reporting to the Director of Veterans Services, the Veterans Outreach and Support Specialist is responsible for coordinating outreach, intake, and onboarding military-affiliated students into Bellevue College. The specialist will collaborate independently with other VRC and Worker Retraining staff to offer student support and guide students through educational navigation, particularly for those participating in state and VA programs.
Key duties include:
- Conduct outreach to prospective military-affiliated students.
- Organize events, workshops, and other programs regularly.
- Assist military-affiliated students with applications for BC admissions, VA benefits, worker retraining, and financial aid.
- Assess student needs and provide guidance on available federal, state, local, and campus resources.
- Help students navigate the college system and identifying barriers to their success.
This position plays a vital role in helping veterans and military-affiliated students successfully transition to and thrive in the Bellevue College community.
Pay, Benefits & Work SchedulePosition Salary Range: $45,900/year - $61,296/year
The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Individuals newly hired to Classified position are placed in a salary range based on the WPEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
We offer comprehensive compensation package with salary and benefits as the main components. Competitive salary is within the Range stated above, and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This is a project Classified, overtime eligible position and represented by the Washington Public Employee Association of Higher Education (WPEA-HE).

About the DepartmentThe Veterans Resource Center (VRC) is a one-stop resource hub for Veteran students at Bellevue College. In partnership with on-campus and community agencies, the VRC supports students with financial, social and academic resources to ensure students¿ academic success. The VRC is part of the Student Support Unit at Bellevue College, which includes Multicultural Services, Disability Resource Center, Advising, Counseling, TRiO, Early Alert and the Benefits Hub.
Essential FunctionsOutreach, Intake, and Processing of New/Prospective Students
- Monitor admissions applications for students with veteran benefits, to gather list of prospective students to reach out to.
- Communicating with newly admitted veterans and family members to assist in processing VA benefits with the VRC.
- Aid military-affiliated students with application processes, including, but not limited to, admissions applications, VA benefit applications, Worker Retraining applications, and financial aid applications.
- Conduct new student orientations.
- Assist military-affiliated students with completing, locating and providing requisite paperwork for VRC and Worker Retraining benefits.
Event programming
- Coordinate regular events, workshops, and other programming in the VRC. These include celebrating military birthdays, Veterans Day, Memorial Day, resource workshops etc.
- Manage the necessary activities associated with planning, hosting, and advertising events in the VRC such as planning room reservations, and catering.
VRC Office Management
- Monitor VRC and ensure a safe, inviting location for military-affiliated students.
- Assist Director of Veterans Services in the management of the VRC.
- Maintain VRC area, including regular cleaning, straightening, and stocking of supplies.
- Answer student questions.
Other Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in a field related to education or project management. Relevant work experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- One (1) year of professional experience in a customer service or students services role.
- Demonstrated experience and proficiency using student information systems.
- Demonstrated ability to create systems for tracking and reporting outreach activities and enrollment data.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills; listening and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently.
- Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative team environment with diverse employees and students.
- Two (2) years¿ of experience supporting veterans and/or other military-affiliated students.
- Experience at a Community and/or Technical College in student services, workforce education, or veteran services.
- Demonstrated experience creating, organizing and presenting workshops tailored to meet the unique needs of the military-affiliated population.
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial aid processes.
