PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

The Pre-Admission Testing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the comprehensive assessment of patients' medical history, physical condition, and any potential risks associated with anesthesia and surgery. This may involve conducting or overseeing physical exams, reviewing medical records, ordering and coordinating necessary tests (e.g., EKG, lab work, X-rays), and ensuring patients are adequately prepared for surgery.  Collaborates with anesthesiologists, surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless communication, coordinate pre-operative testing, and optimize patient care. This position also works with administrative staff to manage schedules, resources, and ensure efficient workflow.  Maintains a line of positive communication, promotes teamwork, and supports the management team by promoting professional collaboration at all levels.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Duty 1: Monitors, revises, and adapts current nursing practice to ensure compliance with established standards of nursing 

Duty 2: Manages the departmental quality and productivity using various methods to ensure continual improvement.

Duty 3:  Collaborates with anesthesia providers and surgeons to provide coordinated plans of treatment, customer-focused care, and effective utilization of services.

Duty 4:  Works with healthcare providers outside of the department to achieve optimal patient care across the continuum.

Duty 5: Reviews and analyzes departmental indicators and uses industry standards to enhance service levels, costs, and continual improvements.

 Duty 6: Assists in developing, oversees, and reviews policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies.

Duty 7: Coordinates with other departments and offices to enhance productivity and customer satisfaction.

Duty 8: Provides leadership and direction to staff and encourages growth of identified associates who have potential to enhance the development of qualified individuals.

Duty 9: Participates on committees as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Licensed by the Ohio Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse

  • Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire

  • Ability to work a variable schedule depending upon the departmental needs

  • A valid driver's license is required (if you do not have a valid Ohio driver's license you must obtain one within 30 days of your residency in the state).  You must also meet BVHS's company fleet policy and insurance company requirements, and any other requirements that may be required to operate a vehicle.

  • Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required.

  • Individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his/her assigned unit/department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status.  Must be able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area's policies and procedures.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  •  Leadership experience in clinical nursing

  • BSN

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent activities in sitting, walking, lifting, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting and standing. The associate will be required to walk for up to one hour a day, sit continuously for six hours a day and stand for one hour a day. The associate must be able to lift 20-50 pounds or more and reach work above the shoulders. The individual must have excellent eye/hand coordination and fine finger dexterity for simple grasping tasks. The individual must have excellent verbal communication skills to perform daily tasks. The associate must have corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. The individual must be able to operate a motor vehicle for business travel and community involvement.

This position is classified “at risk” for possible occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens (HBV, HIV, etc.)
