PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

The purpose of the Staff Accountant position is to provide special accounting assistance as set forth in the detailed job description.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Duty 1: Responsible for assigned areas of the general ledger, including the preparation of journal entries and analysis/reconciliation of assigned accounts on a timely basis. Assists department Manager with overall review of accounts. Reviews entries to general ledger and subsidiary ledgers for accuracy and to ensure compliance with accounting regulations and procedures.
  • Duty 2: Assists in planning, communicating, monitoring, and execution of month-end financial closing and reporting processes.
  • Duty 3: Performs Treasury & Cash Management process on a daily, weekly, monthly basis
  • Duty 4: Identifies area(s) within the department for process or productivity improvements. Develops plan to implement and execute appropriate changes.
  • Duty 5: Assists in the preparation of the annual operating budget by providing necessary schedules and statistical reports.
  • Duty 6: Accurately and timely assists in the preparation of Forms 990s, monthly internal and external reports, and internal control documents.
  • Duty 7: Accurately and timely prepares/analyzes assigned year-end work papers as needed by external auditors. Assists with the preparation of the audited financial statements.
  • Duty 8: Maintains relationships with banks & financial institutions and monitors banking activities (e.g. preparing payments, approving/assigning users, maintains online banking access, etc.)
  • Duty 9: Maintains a working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as it relates to the recording and reporting of all BVHS financial activity.
  • Duty 10: Completes monthly balance sheet reconciliations on assigned accounts

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related field
  • Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel & Microsoft Word
  • Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3 Years' experience in a financial environment, with health care experience
  • Working knowledge of auditing and accounting principles, practices, laws and regulations

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent walking, lifting, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, and standing. The associate will be required to walk for up to one hour a day, sit continuously for six hours a day and stand for one hour a day. The individual must be able to lift twenty to fifty pounds and reach work above the shoulders. The individual must have good eye-hand coordination and fine finger dexterity or simple grasping tasks. The individual must have excellent verbal communication skills to perform daily tasks. The associate must have corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. The individual must be able to operate a motor vehicle for business travel and community involvement.
