As the Principal Assembler developer at BMC, you will be working on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Your work will include collaboration across different BMC products lines. You will be managing a varied workload of multiple ongoing tasks including new function development and product maintenance. You will be communicating with various teams to help resolve customer issues. As part of the development team, it would be your responsibility to develop and debugging of software products. 

This will be working as part of BMC's Storage team, specifically focusing on our FDR product line.  FDR is the High-Performance Storage Management solutions from BMC.

Job Responsibilities:

As the Principal Product Developer at BMC, your responsibilities will include Leading the technical team, high level and low-level architecting and developing a new product from scratch in the world of Storage management. You will tackle complex problems that require in-depth knowledge of z/OS internals. You will collaborate across different BMC product lines, including new function development and product maintenance, and communicate with various teams to resolve customer issues. This role works on a broad array of critical, unique issues and complex programs/solutions. The role requires a good knowledge of product domain, the software development life cycle and the process involved in product development.

What you will be doing:

  • Apply z/OS internals experience to architect complex operating system-level solutions.
  • Architecting and developing new products from scratch.
  • Design, develop, troubleshoot, and debug software programs, including software tools, user interfaces, and cross-platform communication.
  • Address a broad array of critical and unique issues and complex programs/solutions.
  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of the product development process, Channel Program and mainframe product I/O operations.
  • Exhibit a passion for developing high-quality software design and architecture, coding complex modules that meet functional and business requirements on schedule and within budget.
  • Identify, prioritize, and execute tasks in the software development life cycle.
  • Develop tools and applications by producing safe and clean efficient code.
  • Automate tasks through appropriate tools and scripting.
  • Perform unit/module testing to identify errors and confirm programs meet specifications.
  • Stay up to date with new technology and teach other developers how to incorporate new trends.
  • Fix bugs, add enhancements, and convert software to other platforms.
  • Generate ideas with team members and offer insightful solutions.
  • Mentor less experienced colleagues.
  • Troubleshoot complex problems at both application and systems levels.
  • Lead the development team on technology front.

Required Skills: 

  • 20+ years of experience designing, testing, and implementing mainframe OEM vendor products and system exits in an IBM z/OS environment. 
  • Extensive experience coding MVS Assembler using MVS supervisor services, cross memory services and data management facilities. 
  • Extensive experience in a combination of the following - JCL, VSAM, JES2/3, SDSF, ISPF, REXX, and/or C programming. 
  • Diagnostics, Debugging and Troubleshooting skills using IPCS, GTF, and XDC. 
  • Experience in QA principles, including test planning, test cases creation, execution, test results documentation & defect reporting. 
  • Knowledge of storage management/administration (DFSMS, DFSMS/HSM, virtual tape systems, DASD). 
  • The ability to work independently, solve complex problems and effectively reassess work priorities. 
  • Knowledge of z/OS Internals, Channel program, I/O and Control blocks. 
  • Experience supporting and developing MVS systems software. 

Nice to have skills: 

  • Knowledge of trimodal instructions, access register mode, SRB and zIIP processing. 
  • Experience using IBM utilities (IEBCOPY, IEBGENER, SORT, IEHLIST, AMBLIST, etc.). 
  • Experience with working on BMC AMI FDR products.

The annual base salary range represents the low and high end of the BMC salary range for this position. Actual salaries depend on a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training, licensure, and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. 

The range listed is just one component of BMC's employee compensation package. Other rewards may include a variable plan and country specific benefits.

At BMC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at /near the top of the range. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $144,900 - $241,500
