We are seeking an exceptionally skilled Principal AI Architect to lead and execute the implementation of AI initiatives within the organization. This hands-on leadership role involves collaborating closely with cross-functional engineering, product and AI teams to design, prototype, and implement scalable, production-grade AI solutions. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in AI technologies, a proven track record of shipping production code, and the ability to translate complex architectural visions into robust, deployable systems.

• Architectural Vision & Standards: Define and build Machine Learning and AI reference architectures, including design patterns for Generative AI, LLMOps, MLOps, DataOps, RAG systems, and agentic workflows and frameworks; Build hands-on proofs-of-concept to guide engineering teams toward scalable enterprise implementations.
• Research & Development: Prototype new projects using the latest agentic AI architectures, frameworks, and tools, validate ideas with teams, and scale successful solutions into enterprise deployments. Stay abreast of the latest AI trends and cutting-edge methodologies; evaluate and integrate new tools and frameworks to enhance our AI capabilities. This includes leveraging advanced ML, NLP and deep learning techniques.
• Production Implementation & Engineering: Lead through code by designing, implementing, and maintaining core platform components and AI services in production environments, often with a hands-on coding commitment. Establish frameworks for evaluation, observability, and security guardrails to ensure trust, compliance, and safe AI adoption.
• Collaboration & Guidance: Partner with product management, data science, and engineering teams on AI initiatives and cross functional projects, providing senior technical guidance and performing deep code reviews and implementation, and ensuring alignment with key performance indicators (KPIs) and business metrics.
• Mentorship & Influence: Act as a technical advisor and mentor to engineers and architects, driving alignment across teams by publishing reference architectures and best practices.
• Compliance & Ethics: Partner with security, legal, and compliance teams to define privacy, guardrails and embed responsible AI principles, data privacy, and explainability into enterprise designs.

To ensure you're set up for success, you will bring the following skillset & experience:

• Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in software development and enterprise architecture, with strong experience building and operating production-grade AI/ML systems.
• Strong background in delivering Generative AI solutions spanning integration of foundation models (LLMs), RAG systems, and multimodal AI technologies.
• Experience in building Agentic AI solutions inclusive of MCP, A2A, and other contemporary architectures.
• Proven track record of reimagining enterprise processes and delivering measurable transformation through technology.
• Proficient in developing and testing Agentic AI solutions on a practical level and enterprise scale.
• Excellent understanding of data management, LLMOps, MLOps practices, and cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.).
• Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or C++, and familiarity with AI frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• A strong portfolio of successfully operationalized AI projects, publications, or patents that demonstrate innovation and impact. 
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions and align stakeholders.

The annual base salary range represents the low and high end of the BMC salary range for this position. Actual salaries depend on a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training, licensure, and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. 

The range listed is just one component of BMC's employee compensation package. Other rewards may include a variable plan and country specific benefits.

At BMC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at /near the top of the range. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $240,375 - $400,625
