You will be working as a member of the Mainframe Technical Services infrastructure support team.  Our mission is to provide the IBM Z infrastructure (hardware and software) required by the Intelligent Z Optimization and Transformation (IZOT) business unit, R&D teams, and related Sales, and Customer Support organizations.   

 

The Senior z/VM and Linux on Z Systems Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and optimization of IBM z/VM and Linux environments on IBM Z mainframes. This role involves managing virtualized resources, ensuring system performance, security, and availability, and providing technical support for complex issues. The administrator will also play a key role in planning and implementing system upgrades and new technologies. 

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS 

Required Qualifications: 

· Seven or more years experience with and proficient knowledge of z/VM Hypervisor, CP, CMS, SFS, REXX, SS, z/VM networking including VSWITCH,VTAM, TCP/IP, RSCS, z/OS guest support and virtual coupling facility support and Linux on Z builds. 

· A minimum of seven years of systems support background, including a strong working knowledge of procedures to apply IBM software service in the z/VM environment. 

· Expert knowledge of and proficiency with installation, configuration, and maintenance processes.  

 

Other qualifications

·  Expert knowledge of and proficiency with IBM products and utilities - required; preferred experience with BMC utilities - a plus.  

·  Be willing to learn and work with modified maintenance procedures and setups unique to BMC. 

·  Thorough problem-solving skills, a demonstrated ability to work issues to resolution, and independent work habits are necessary requirements.  

·   Ability to manage multiple, simultaneous tasks. 

·   Ability to remain calm, cordial, and effective during the resolution of time critical system interruptions/difficulties/failures. 

·   Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 

 

Desirable:  

 

·  Working knowledge of z/OS systems administration, including USS, TSO, ISPF, SDSF, JES2/JES3, JCL, SMF, REXX, and SMPE   

·  Experience with the former Innovation Data Products FDRPASVM and Upstream products.   

·  Experience with RACF on z/VM.   

·  Experience using the IBM Z HMC. 

 

 

 

 

 

 


JOB DUTIES

 

·  Install, test, implement, maintain, enhance, and support z/VM operating systems, subsystems, and infrastructure applications and/or associated facilities.   

·  Provisioning virtual machines, including loading of standard Linux image (Red Hat, SUSE and Ubuntu) and related software. 

·  Configuration of network interfaces; VSWITCH setup and interfaces to Linux on System z guests.  

·  Ongoing maintenance and support including review of vendor-supplied maintenance materials, e.g., IBM RSU & PUT, to ensure installation of recommended levels of software/firmware.  

·  Management and use of Velocity zVPS product suite and IBM Performance Toolkit. 

·  Use DirMaint and native directory management for managing CP directories. 

·  Support of IBM Backup and Restore Manager, Tape Manager and DFSMS products for z/VM backups.   

·  Insure interoperability of operating system and program products from IBM and/or ISV's.   

·  Perform problem analysis and work with IBM to resolve problems on all supported subsystems.    

·   Work with Mainframe Technical Services support group to test operating system and program products to insure compatibility with vendor-supplied changes.   

·  Participate in vendor early ship/early support programs as needed.   

·  Participate in BMC beta/early ship/early support programs whenever possible and feasible.   

·  Implement new hardware and software technologies as required.   

·  Develops documentation; receives and provide knowledge transfer to peers. 

·  Participating in project teams as subject matter expert, relating to the support of existing technologies and the selection and implementation of new technologies. 

· Demonstrate teamwork support by expressing a collaborative attitude and sharing technical know-how. Support BMC disaster recovery/business continuity programs as directed.

At BMC we believe in pay transparency and have set the midpoint of the salary band for this role at 2,628,600 INR. Actual salaries depend on a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training, licensure, and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. 
The salary listed is just one component of BMC's employee compensation package. Other rewards may include a variable plan and country specific benefits.
