As an Elementary Mandarin Immersion Teacher, you will develop lesson plans aligned with established guidelines, fostering effective relationships with students, staff members, and parents. Your role will be to motivate students to develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge necessary for a strong educational foundation, tailored to each student's abilities, while adhering to the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Standards.

How You Will Impact Education

In your instructional role, you will plan and implement a Mandarin immersion program that adheres to the company's philosophy and objectives as outlined in the adopted courses of study. You will create purposeful lesson plans that utilize effective teaching strategies and maximize time on task. Presenting subject matter to students will focus on maximizing language acquisition opportunities, incorporating real-world application examples and cultural insights. You will review student records to gain an understanding of each student's abilities and needs while maintaining accurate and complete records.

 

Your goal will be to maximize the educational achievement of each student by utilizing a variety of learning modalities and differentiated instruction strategies specifically designed for language learners. Frequent diagnostic assessments will help you evaluate student learning, and you will assess strengths and weaknesses to provide appropriate activities that address student needs. You will generate progress reports as required and refer students with suspected learning challenges to the appropriate support personnel.

 

Additionally, you will coordinate class field trips and prepare students for state-required achievement assessments. Staying current in your subject matter knowledge and learning theory, as well as in best practices for language instruction, is crucial. You will assist in the ongoing revision of the curriculum, including the selection of instructional materials that reflect ACTFL Standards for language proficiency.

 

Provide a Classroom Environment Conducive to Learning

You will create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and aligns with the maturity and interests of your students. Maintaining a positive rapport with students while demonstrating patience and nurturing is essential for their growth. You will ensure that the classroom is clean, safe, and showcases student-generated work. Implementing relevant policies governing student conduct and developing reasonable rules will help maintain order fairly and consistently.

 

Instructional Planning

Your responsibilities will include developing lesson plans consistent with established guidelines and objectives. You will plan individual and group learning activities tailored to meet instructional objectives and student needs. Evidence of preparation for classes will be expected upon request from supervisory personnel. You will participate in curriculum planning meetings with other staff members and incorporate diagnostic information as required in students' Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Taking necessary precautions to protect supplies, equipment, and materials will be part of your planning.

 

School/Community Relations

Establishing cooperative relationships with parents and guardians is vital, and you will strive to communicate clearly and positively using appropriate mediums. Collaboration with administration, other staff members, and CSUSA will be key in maintaining confidentiality regarding student records and participating in parent communication activities. Your involvement in extracurricular activities will support a positive school culture and provide additional support for students and staff as required.

Job Requirements

You should demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to your position and the mission of the company. A valid Louisiana elementary or early childhood teaching certification with an endorsement in Mandarin or equivalent credentials is required. Additionally, you must possess a strong command of the Mandarin language, demonstrating proficiency at a minimum of the ACTFL Intermediate-High level. A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of successful teaching experience, which may include Student Teaching Internship experience, is preferred.

 

You must establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, students, parents, and the community while being sensitive to corporate needs and public image. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills--both oral and written--are necessary for success in this role.

 

You should have a consistent attendance record, follow instructions, respond to management direction, and seek feedback for improvement. Proficient experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Student Information Systems (SIS), and email communications is required. You should continuously seek ways to improve quality and demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness, striving to implement best practices in language education.
