HEAD OF TRUST & ESTATE SERVICES

 

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY? Responsible for managing and directing all trust activities to promote profitable growth with the highest standards of integrity and risk management. This role is responsible for strategic direction, growth and integration of the organizations trust, estate, and fiduciary service platform across all business lines. This executive will ensure seamless connectivity between the Trust Company, Investment Management, The Private Bank, the Broker-Dealer, and affiliated RIA's, delivering a coordinated wealth management experience for high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients. Position ensures that the administration of trusts is in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and governing trust documents. The role also leads the expansion and regulatory stewardship of the firm's Delaware Trust Company and national trust capabilities— positioning the organization as a destination fiduciary partner for internal wealth channels and external advisor relationships. Develop strong working partnerships with CNB and RBC teams as well as managing relationships with clients, COI's and other internal business partners. Create a superior work environment that will attract, develop and retain top caliber colleagues. The incumbent will report to the Head of City National Wealth Management. This role is national in scope with significant operations on both the east and west coasts which will require travel.

 

WHAT WILL YOU DO?
  • Drive the national strategy for trust and estate services in coordination with Investment Management, Private Banking, and Advisor Distribution leadership team
  • Partner with the Head of Investments to align fiduciary oversight and investment execution within trust accounts, ensuring enterprise risk and compliance consistency.
  • Recommend annual operating budget and execute against the business's annual plan and strategic goals
  • Maintain a team of high performing colleagues including trust officers, sales and administration, including performance management, colleague development and succession planning.
  • Oversee risk policies consistent with regulatory requirements and the Company's risk appetite.
  • Partner with Legal, Risk, and Compliance to address evolving regulatory expectations in multi-entity fiduciary oversight and trust administration
  • Create and manage a business development strategy in partnership with divisions in CNB, financial advisors in RBC Wealth Management and externally with unaffiliated wealth management firms. Establish and maintain a service and pricing model for the various primary distribution channels
  • Develop and retain trust business by maintaining professional and community contacts
  • Meet with clients, administrators, co-trustees, beneficiaries and attorneys regarding the establishment, administration and operation of the largest and most complex trust accounts
  • Proactively manage the business to account for new developments in trust regulation, market strategies and competitive positioning

 

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED? Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive fiduciary leadership experience across trust administration, investment management, or private wealth management environments
  • Minimum 10 years of leadership/management experience
  Additional Qualifications
  • Certified Trust and Fiduciary Advisor (CTFA) or Juris Doctor (JD) preferred
  • Excellent communication and managerial skills
  • Ability to access and influence Ultra High Net Worth client base and centers of influence
  • History of significant revenue-generating leadership
  • Strong executive presence with proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and align cross-functional teams toward growth objectives
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Multi-disciplined private banking/wealth management expertise
  • Depth of investment, fiduciary and banking knowledge
  • Broad base of industry and COI contacts

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU? Compensation Starting base salary: $218,782 - $406,300 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
