Join our team as an Animal Bylaw Educator and help shape the future of animal welfare and public safety in our city. As a member of the Animal Care and Control Bylaw Outreach Team, you will be the face of the new Animal Care and Control Bylaw, which becomes effective on May 19, 2026. This is a unique opportunity to engage directly with residents through door-to-door conversations and community events. You will play a vital role in helping the community understand new rules regarding animal welfare, vicious dogs, and mandatory reporting. Your work will ensure that our community remains informed, safe, and supportive of responsible pet ownership.
What will you do?
- Lead and deliver outreach activities and assist senior staff in administering programs on a continual basis
- Act as ambassador for Animal Care and Control and represents the City in a positive, diplomatic and professional way
- Engage residents in face-to-face conversations to provide educational support to help understand the new bylaw and how it impacts them
- Answer questions regarding services, pet licensing, and the animal-related complaint process
- Gather data and record conversation outcomes using digital reporting tools
- Canvas and survey the number and types of pets at various properties, recording data in a central repository
- Coordinate logistics for outreach events, including material preparation and the set-up and tear-down of pop-up displays and booths
- Identify leads for potential outreach locations to expand the reach and impact of the program
- Perform other duties as assigned
