Description

The City of Edmonton is looking for a collaborative and detail-oriented professional to join the Infrastructure Services (IS) department. As a Communications Coordinator, you will play a vital role in supporting  IS by bridging the gap between technical project details and community understanding. You will help foster positive relationships with community partners and ensure that information is shared effectively and creatively. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to  major city building projects while working alongside a dedicated team of communications experts.

What will you do?

  • Support the implementation of communications and engagement plans specifically for the City's infrastructure projects
  • Draft, write, and coordinate a wide variety of materials, including news releases, newsletters, social media content, and speaking notes
  • Coordinate the logistics for public events and community initiatives, including leading volunteers and evaluating event success
  • Liaise with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure all marketing and educational materials are delivered on time
  • Gather complex information from project teams and translate it into clear, meaningful content for the public

Qualifications

  • Graduate from a two-year college or technical institute program with coursework related to marketing, journalism, communications, or public relations
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a public relations, public affairs, or public information role
  • Opportunity Concept:

Assets:

  • Experience working within a large, complex public sector organization
  • Familiarity with infrastructure or transportation projects

Skills required for success:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on accuracy and succinctness
  • Ability to navigate difficult conversations and manage interactions with people affected by construction activities
  • Working knowledge of media relations, social media, design coordination, and print production
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage competing priorities and multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with diverse groups and internal collaborators at all levels

Work Environment:

  • Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement, and the incumbent will be notified in advance
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends to attend events is required

Salary Range: $36.128 - $45.418 (Hourly); $75,435.26 - $94,832.78 (Annually)
