Description

Are you an experienced and motivated leader passionate about contributing to the beauty and safety of Edmonton's parks and roadways? The City of Edmonton is seeking a dedicated Crew Leader to join our dynamic Landscape Services team. In this role, you will play a vital part in providing seasonal landscaping services, supervising crews, and ensuring the safe and efficient maintenance of our city's green spaces. From April to October, you'll be instrumental in training, supervising, leading, and evaluating staff involved in maintaining client sites.  During the winter months, you will transition into a Leader 1 role supporting the City's snow and ice program, ensuring our roadways and active pathways are safe for all.

As a Crew Leader, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of a crew, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. This includes providing leadership, training, and guidance to crew members, as well as making key decisions on work site operations and resource allocation. You will also play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. This position requires a strong leader with excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, and someone who is committed to team setting and providing exceptional service.

What will you do?

  • Make daily decisions related to work crews, staff management, and the use of equipment and materials
  • Prioritize tasks and implement work plans according to standard operating procedures
  • Liaise with clients and stakeholders ensure quoted estimates and actual work are aligned
  • Conduct safety training, toolbox talks, and new employee orientation
  • Assign tasks to crew members, provide direction, and oversee the completion of work
  • Monitor and assess staff attendance, performance, providing coaching, feedback, and support
  • Provide leadership and in-field instruction on equipment operation
  • Ensure staff certifications and training are up-to-date
  • Offer professional advice and assistance to the Team Leader
  • Support the setting of work performance expectations and assist in performance reviews
  • Respond to discipline and performance issues
  • Utilize software programs such as SAP, ArcGIS, and Google Suite
  • Complete pesticide application documentation accurately, including transportation of dangerous goods, application records, and tracking sheets
  • Ensure safe handling of herbicides and proper application techniques
  • Ensure staff are trained in application best practices and weed identification
  • Ensure staff receive proper equipment training for summer and winter seasons
  • Participate in safety inspections and ensure compliance with safety and environmental policies
  • Support and backfill Snow and Ice Leader 2 when required
