The City of Edmonton is looking for a dedicated leader to join the Parks and Urban Forestry team in a unique dual-role capacity. This position offers the opportunity to shape the landscape of our city by managing premier sports fields in the warmer months and leading vital snow and ice clearing operations during the winter. As a dual-role Team Lead and Crew Leader, you will provide essential leadership to multi-disciplinary teams across two distinct seasons. From April to October, you will serve as the Sportsfields North Team Leader, overseeing the maintenance and rejuvenation of turf, baseball diamonds, and various track and court infrastructures. When winter arrives, you will transition into the role of Active Pathways Crew Leader, directing a large team in critical snow and ice management to keep our pathways safe and accessible. This position is responsible for staff supervision, including hiring, training, and performance management, while ensuring all operations align with safety standards. You will play a key role in budget execution and resource allocation to ensure our parks infrastructure meets the expectations of our community. Success in this role requires high resilience, excellent communication, and the ability to adapt to changing seasonal priorities.
What will you do?
- Lead and supervise a multi-disciplinary team, including directing work assignments for up to 30 staff members during peak seasons
- Oversee the maintenance and rejuvenation of sports field infrastructure, including turfgrass management, shale maintenance for diamonds, and irrigation system functionality
- Manage the field closure program by assessing conditions and prioritizing maintenance needs
- Coordinate winter operations for the Active Pathway snow and ice program, including daily priority setting, equipment coordination, and accomplishment tracking
- Maintain a safe work environment by upholding OH&S policies, conducting site safety assessments, and managing workplace injury protocols
- Handle administrative duties such as staff evaluations, recruitment assistance, budget monitoring, and performance feedback
- Collaborate with internal teams and community partners to coordinate work plans and respond to inquiries
- University Bachelor's Degree in Horticulture, Business, Landscape Architecture, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience
- Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in parks maintenance, construction, or operations
Assets:
- Extensive knowledge of OH&S legislation, ENVISO, and WHMIS
- Experience with software systems such as Google Workspace, SAP, ArcGIS, LMS, and SDMS
- Familiarity with the collective agreement between the City of Edmonton and CUPE Local 30

Conditions of Employment:
- Successfully obtain and maintain a City Driver's permit
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle License (or provincial equivalent)
- Ability to provide a personal vehicle for business use (reimbursed according to City policy)
- Requirement to obtain business use auto insurance for work purposes
- Compliance with all safety standards and use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Work Environment:
- This is a dual-role position requiring high mental resilience to transition between different work areas, teams, and schedules
- You will work primarily outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
- Exposure to noise, dust, and vibrations from heavy equipment may occur
- The role involves frequent standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs
- Requirement to engage in on-call shifts and interact with community members in potentially confrontational situations
