Reporting to the Fire Chief, the Deputy Fire Chief of Community Safety and Risk will play a crucial role in the department's mandate to “connect to protect”. This position oversees the design and delivery of community risk reduction initiatives to the community and fire prevention programs including fire investigations, fire inspections and public education. The Deputy Chief of Community Safety and Risk also oversees Emergency Management and Emergency Communications services. Your primary mission will be to foster a work culture that values innovation, positivity, engagement and collaboration while demonstrating strong leadership abilities, political acumen and relationship skills, all to improve public safety in Edmonton.
What will you do?
- Lead an empowered team, cultivating a dynamic and welcoming environment that encourages individual strengths and collective success
- Create and support an inclusive, proactive, innovative, positive and progressive culture in EFRS
- Support the Fire Chief in the design and implementation of the strategic direction for the Fire Service
- Liaise with other fire services leadership and external agencies to facilitate collaborative relationships
- Support the other Deputy Fire Chiefs, Fire Chief, Deputy City Managers and Council by providing information and reports that allow them to make informed decisions
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships to foster effective problem solving and innovation
- Keep current with advances in business practices, technology and technical information to ensure the best value for services is delivered. Collaborate and liaise with internal partners, Canadian Codes Committees, Provincial Fire Commissioner, neighbouring communities, Edmonton Police Services, RCMP, Alberta Health Services and other agencies
