Description
In a partnership between the Indigenous Relations Office, the Edmonton 2 Spirit Society, and Fireweed Kinship Society), and the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Two Spirit (MMIWG2S ) Action Plan, the City of Edmonton is seeking two Indigenous Project and Engagement Liaisons.
The National Inquiry's Final Report reveals that persistent and deliberate human and Indigenous rights violations and abuses are the root cause behind Canada's staggering rates of violence against Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people. Through the creation of these roles, the City is prioritizing deliberate actions to address issues related to the human and Indigenous rights violations against Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA individuals.
These positions provide a unique opportunity to collaborate with multiple organizations on projects that support Indigenous communities. These positions will support community engagement initiatives focused on enhancing the culture and well-being of Indigenous women and/or Two-Spirit individuals. Primary responsibilities include facilitating projects that create positive environments and promote cultural resurgence within these communities. Additionally, these positions will contribute to the empowerment of Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA individuals to reclaim their roles, cultural practices, and language within their respective communities.
These positions provide valuable experience in both municipal government and community-based work. During the first half of the assignment, you will work within the Indigenous Relations Office, providing you with valuable experience in a municipal government setting.
