Description

Lot grading is an essential element of development that supports efficient drainage in the city. The Lot Grading Supervisor supervises a team of Lot Grading Inspectors and Plan Reviewers to deliver a highly complex and advanced technical surface drainage service. This service includes plan approval, site inspections, and investigation of complaints about drainage to ensure the provisions of Drainage Bylaw 18093 are met. This key position manages lot grading approvals for a variety of surface drainage enhancements occurring across the City, and oversees compliance and enforcement decision making with considerations of unit policy, bylaw interpretation, provincial legislation, and political and social circumstances. Your success will be measured by your ability to achieve timely results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style.

The Lot Grading Supervisor will support a high performing service delivery team within a multi-functional environment. This position will be responsible for effective day to day operations and collaboration with Drainage Planning and Engineering, and EPCOR. 

What will you do? 

  • Lead the full recruitment cycle and establish/steward the Employee Performance program, including Performance Plans and Evaluations for all subordinate staff.
  • Conduct one-on-one staff meetings to provide direction, develop rapport, facilitate discussion, and offer recognition; monitor performance and attendance, and work with management on formal discipline when required.
  • Review and modify subordinate staff's work products and actions to ensure consistency, quality, and adherence to the Lot Grading unit's policies and procedures.
  • Support the Program Manager in developing and implementing lot grading policies, guidelines, and program improvement initiatives.
  • Lead the work unit's OH&S program and facilitate team building and cultural commitment activities.
  • Support the Lot Grading Plan Reviewer as relief during high volumes and for escalated decisions.
  • Deliver on complex and sensitive files using advanced judgment, initiative, and creativity to analyze compliance data and consider land use impacts to neighboring properties.
  • Investigate and respond to escalated complaints and support the team in identifying resolutions.
  • Support staff at court when required.
