Description

Are you a detail-oriented professional with a knack for financial storytelling? The City of Edmonton's Integrated Infrastructure Services department is looking for a Project and Business Analyst to join the Department Strategy and Project Management Center of Excellence.

In this role, you will serve as a subject matter expert, ensuring our capital projects are backed by accurate data and robust reporting processes. You will play a vital part in translating complex financial information into actionable insights for leadership. What will you do?

  • Coordinate, collect, and review internal budget adjustments and cash flows for capital projects
  • Ensure project data within systems like SAP, COBS, and eBuilder accurately reflects approved budget information
  • Administer monthly and quarterly project reporting processes to ensure department-wide consistency and compliance
  • Develop and improve key performance indicators (KPIs) related to capital project performance
  • Prepare comprehensive briefing notes and presentations for the leadership team to support informed decision-making
  • Identify emerging concerns in project reporting and develop creative solutions or process improvements
  • Liaise with internal collaborators to manage variance reporting, carry-forwards, and budget change requirements
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications

  • University degree in Business Administration or Management, with a specific focus on Accounting or Financial Management
  • A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible accounting or financial experience, specifically working with capital budgets and performance reporting

Assets: 

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, or CMA) or equivalent
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Direct experience in capital project management

Skills required for success:

  • In-depth knowledge of financial concepts, basic accounting, and project management principles
  • Advanced technical proficiency in SAP, COBS, eBuilder, and the Google Suite
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and create formulas
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate technical financial data for different audiences
  • Proven ability to build strategic networks and partnerships with internal collaborators

Conditions of Employment:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with constant deadline pressures and short-notice research requests

Work Environment:

  • This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement, and the incumbent will be notified in advance
  • This position primarily operates in a standard indoor office environment
  • The role involves frequent sitting and constant sensory attention, including active focused listening

Salary Range: $45.611 - $57.269 (Hourly); $80,355.180 - $100,893.660 (Annually)
