Description

Up to 1 temporary full-time position for 4 months, commencing in May 2025, intended specifically for students currently enrolled in communications with a focus on web design or digital media related post-secondary diploma or degree program

The City of Edmonton's Office of the Chief Communications Officer is seeking a summer student with a focus on digital and web media to join their Digital Services team. In this role, you'll help create and manage online content, optimize web pages, and improve the user experience for the City's websites. You'll work with various departments to develop effective online communications that meet the needs of both the City and its residents. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain practical experience and build valuable skills alongside a team of experienced professionals.

As a part of the team, you may:

  • Responsible for keeping the content on edmonton.ca and the intranet (OneCity) current and up-to-date. This means creating new web pages, updating existing content, and redesigning pages based on user feedback, website data, and design best practices
  • Ensure best practices in accessibility, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), responsive design, and site performance are adhered to when creating and updating content
  • Ensure that web content meets corporate standards, design style and consistency
  • Collaborate with the Digital Services Strategy team on projects and initiatives created to improve the City's web environment and page content
  • Support the development and implementation of digital asset management workflow including metadata strategies
  • Proactively support the quality assurance process by routinely reviewing web content submissions and helping to identify and fix issues
  • Demonstrate the City's Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent as well as the seven commitments made to reconciliation through the City's Indigenous Framework
