Job Description

Applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.CSN Libraries is looking to fill one Library Assistant II position at the Charleston Campus Library. The Library Assistant II is a member of a 3–5-person circulation team and reports directly to the head of circulation. The Library Assistant II will assist in the daily operations of the circulation department, with an emphasis on providing exceptional customer service to their colleagues, and all CSN Libraries users.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assisting patrons with circulation related issues and services.
Interpreting related library policies and procedures to students, faculty, staff and community users, while providing exemplary customer service.
Demonstrating effective leadership and reports any library related issues to the Head of Circulation.
Assisting in training and daily supervision of student workers.
Working within the circulation system on related tasks such as maintaining records, maintaining hold shelf, performing shelf checks, fulfilling requests, etc.
Assisting with overall maintenance of the periodicals collection, library book stacks and overall collection management.
Participating in departmental wide work, committees, outreach, and events as applicable.
Engaging in continuing professional development.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, subject to change based on organizational needs.
Required Qualifications
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience in a library or other cultural heritage institution, including one year of technical level work performing duties such as copy cataloging, acquisitions, electronic resource management, ; and/or organizing, curating and accessing government publications; OR one year of experience as a Library Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Preferred Qualifications
High degree of interpersonal skill and demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationships with library staff and customers.
Experience working accurately with library circulation systems and services.
Proven record in library public service and a commitment to customer service.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Understanding of library collection records and stack maintenance and management.
Additional Physical Requirements
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining a physical condition necessary for standing and walking; frequent lifting and carrying objects of light weight (5-10 lbs.); occasional lifting and carrying of objects of moderate weight (11-20 lbs.); frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and pushing; frequent pushing of loaded, wheeled carts of very heavy weight (100-150 lbs.); minimal dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs or body in the operation of office equipment; utilizing a keyboard, and sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Tasks require sound perception, color perception, visual perception and oral communication ability.
Work Schedule
Tuesdays-Fridays 7:30am-4:30pm, Saturdays 8:00am-5:00pm
Summers and intersession/convocation breaks: Mondays-Thursdays 7:30am-4:30pm
Salary Range
Grade 23, Step 1- $39,421.44
Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
