Position Summary


CSN Libraries is looking to fill one Library Assistant III position at the Henderson Campus Library. The Library Assistant III is a member of a 3–5-person circulation team and reports directly to the head of circulation. The Library Assistant III will assist in the daily operations of the circulation department, with an emphasis student worker supervision and providing exceptional customer service to their colleagues, and all CSN Libraries users. 


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


•    Assisting patrons with circulation related issues and services.
•    Interpreting related library policies and procedures to students, faculty, staff and community users, while providing exemplary customer service.
•    Demonstrating effective leadership and reports any library related issues to the Head of Circulation.
•    Hiring, training, and daily supervision of student workers. 
•    As assigned, trains library staff on circulation desk operations.
•    Develop training materials for circulation operations.
•    As assigned, collect, record, and prepare reports of various circulation statistics.
•    Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize workload and job assignments.
•    Working within the circulation system on related tasks such as maintaining records, maintaining hold shelf, performing shelf checks, fulfilling requests, etc.
•    Ability to seek out efficiencies and demonstrate good use of available resources.
•    Assisting with overall maintenance of the periodicals collection, library book stacks and overall collection management.
•    Participating in departmental wide work, committees, outreach, and events as applicable.
•    Engaging in continuing professional development.
•    Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, subject to change based on organizational needs.
 
Required Qualifications


•    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of library or clerical experience which included providing customer service; OR one year of experience as a Library Assistant II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Preferred Qualifications


•    High degree of interpersonal skill and demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationships with library staff and customers.
•    Good listening skills with the ability to solve problems alone and/or in tandem with others.
•    Experience working accurately with library circulation systems and services.
•    Proven record in library public service and a commitment to customer service.
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills.
•    Understanding of library collection records and stack maintenance and management.
 
Additional Physical Requirements


•    Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining a physical condition necessary for standing and walking; frequent lifting and carrying objects of light weight (5-10 lbs.); occasional lifting and carrying of objects of moderate weight (11-20 lbs.); frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and pushing; frequent pushing of loaded, wheeled carts of very heavy weight (100-150 lbs.); minimal dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs or body in the operation of office equipment; utilizing a keyboard, and sitting or standing for extended periods of time.  Tasks require sound perception, color perception, visual perception and oral communication ability.

Starting Salary


Grade 25, Step 1 - $42,636.96 
 

Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
