Job Description
Delivers high-quality instructional training to prepare students and industry professionals in public safety, infrastructure integrity, and regulatory compliance aligned with Nevada DOT, FMCSR, and OSHA standards. The instructor will teach proper vehicle inspection protocols, regulatory requirements, and safety compliance rather than performing field inspections directly.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum Delivery: Teach commercial vehicle, infrastructure, and operational safety compliance according to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR), OSHA, and DOT standards.
Inspection Procedures Training: Guide students through step-by-step procedures for conducting pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip vehicle inspections.
Regulatory Compliance Instruction: Train learners on how to verify Hours of Service (HOS), Electronic Logging Device (ELD) data, permits, and hazardous materials placarding.
Infrastructure Safety Concepts: Instruct students on roadway, pavement, and National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) inspection methodologies.
Reporting & Communication: Teach best practices for documenting inspection findings using digital reporting systems, clear driver/public communication, and de-escalation techniques.
Required Knowledge & Certification Background
(Candidates must possess the experience or credentials necessary to instruct on the following DOT-aligned areas in Nevada)
CVSA Inspector Knowledge: Ability to teach Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) safety inspection criteria.
Nevada DOT Inspector Credentials (Level I–III): Expertise to instruct on full vehicle, driver, and hazardous materials inspection standards.
Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Endorsement: Mastery of HazMat compliance, placarding, and transport rules.
NBIS Bridge Inspection: Familiarity with National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) to teach structural and bridge safety awareness.
OSHA Compliance: Authorization or ability to teach OSHA 10/30 safety basics.
ELD & HOS Standards: Knowledge to instruct on Hours of Service regulations and ELD verification practices.
Optional Knowledge Areas: FAA airfield safety awareness or rail/transit safety modules.
Skills & Competencies
Strong mastery of DOT, FMCSR, and OSHA regulations with the ability to explain complex standards clearly.
Knowledge of vehicle safety defects, structural violations, and standard inspection tools/equipment.
Proficiency in digital reporting tools used across the transport industry.
Strong classroom management, instructional delivery, and conflict resolution skills.
