POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Surgical Services is responsible for overseeing the clinical and non-clinical operations of Surgical Services. This position is accountable to ensure efficient patient flow, independently performs duties associates with human resources, financial and materials management; identifies and works to improve clinical and non-clinical processes through the use of QI/PI methodologies; and accomplish established strategic/departmental goals for Surgical Services.
Functional areas reporting directly include Same Day Surgery, Recovery, OR, Reception and CSR, and direct management to two Patient Care Coordinators. In addition to day-to-day operations, the Director shall work collaboratively to direct cross departmental processes with Laboratory, Radiology, OB/Delivery, Med-Surgical, Materials Management and the Business Office. Involved in annual budgeting and is fiscally accountable to the department budget. Knowledgeable about clinical and regulatory standards established by State, AORN, Joint Commission and possess skills to ensure compliance with such standards.
This position shall work closely with Surgeons, Medical Director of Peri-Operative Services, Surgical Services Administrator, other CRMC Directors and Managers. This position will require strong leadership and communication skills, independent decision making and problem solving and possess a high degree of self-initiative.
- Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in nursing required. Master's degree in nursing preferred. Minimum of 5 years experience in direct patient care in a surgical environment. Minimum of 5 years or management and leadership experience required, preferably in a similar-sized surgical services operation. Previous acute care experience required. Knowledge about QI/PI methodologies. CNOR or CPAN preferred upon hire or obtained within 2 years of hire.
- License/Certificates:
- Current Minnesota RN License. American Heart Association BLS Certification required within 30 days of hire.

- Partner with Operating Room and Recovery Room Nurse Managers to manage the daily operations of the Surgical Services department, including staff hiring, orientation, supervision, monitoring of expenses, preparation of budgets, reporting of activities, managing employee performance and addressing concerns.
- Plan, organize, direct, and coordinate nursing and other services within the surgical service line.
- Ensure compliance with licensing and accreditation requirements.
- Monitor quality of care and promotes patient safety in the surgical environment.
- Manage difficulties which may influence efficient operations and work collaboratively to problem-solve and achieve desired outcomes.
- Accountable for development and maintenance of the unit budgets.
- Develop and update standards and policies based on best practices and which promote high quality, patient care.
- Accountable for efficient use of all resources: personnel, material, financial, including capital equipment acquisitions over short and long range period of time.
- Monitor volume and other statistics as it relates to staff utilization, efficiency, productivity and actively seeks to achieve targets.
- Partner with Senior Leadership on future direction and growth of departments in a strategic manner.
- Manage performance improvement activities.
The estimated starting pay range for this role is $125,000 - $132,000 Actual pay rate offered depends on many factors including each individual employee's experience level, preferred education/certifications, along with market conditions.
