Summary The Battle Creek VA Medical Center is recruiting for a Registered Nurse - Nurse Manager for the Lansing CBOC. The Registered Nurse - Nurse Manager will function in Ambulatory Care Nursing Service. Responsibilities The ACNS Nurse Manager, leads, supervises, manages, and guides all levels of Nursing staff, Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Health Technicians (HTs), and support staff as these staff members implement holistic care for ill patients, some of which may have a psychiatric diagnosis. The Patient Care Aligned Team (PACT) takes walk ins and implements appropriate action as well as directs the patient's flow through the health care facility for that visit. The ACNS Nurse Manager is a member of the interdisciplinary team and is responsible for organizing care delivery in a manner that promotes continuity and accountability for patient care. This includes assignment of surrogates, monitoring performance measure alerts and supervising the My Health Vet program (MHV). He/she is responsible for ensuring that resources (staff, equipment, and space) are procured when needed and utilized appropriately and effectively in the delivery of patient care needs. The ACNS Nurse Manager ensures that staff learning needs are assessed over time and that staff participate in training sessions designed to meet their learning needs. He/she is responsible for appropriately guiding and counseling staff, addressing performance and conduct issues as well as completing performance appraisals and proficiencies in a timely manner. The ACNS Nurse Manager implements Patient Care Services and Medical Center policies and procedures in the area ACNS is responsible to initiate and/or participate in program planning and problem identification/resolution designed to improve the quality of care delivered to medical and medical/psychiatric patients and their family members. The ACNS Nurse Manager, participates in Nursing Service and Medical Center Committees as assigned and performs all Quality Management assignments in a timely Manner (including data collection, aggregation, and analysis) and forwards to the appropriate committee. The ACNS Nurse Manager promotes the PACT model of care. Duties include but are not limited to: Leading and organizing delivery of care to assure continuity of care arid peer accountability for practice, including access to care and discharge planning Using advanced clinical knowledge/judgment to promote staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes Functioning as competent in clinical practice and/or areas related to the assigned roles and responsibilities Systematically evaluating current practice, and formulating outcomes for groups of patients and/or organizational processes within an area of expertise Guiding, developing, and supporting staff from a leadership perspective Using professional standards of care, scientific evidence, and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities. Qualifications Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U. S. C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6); OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant an appointment as a Nurse who has completed an associated degree/entry level Nursing education program. Credit for foreign nursing education higher that associate degree/entry level requires a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA such as International Consultants of Delaware (ICD).
