Job Description Summary:
Position holds twenty-four hour accountability for the management of a specific patient care unit which includes the responsibility for clinical nurse practice, the management of human, fiscal and other resources, the development of personnel, and compliance with regulatory and professional standards. Position fosters interdisciplinary and collaborative relationships within a clinical unit and the institution and participates in strategic planning.
Qualifications:
Current MT RN license.
Three (3) years of clinical experience in Labor and Delivery, Nursery and Postpartum.
BLS or ability to obtain within 2 months of hire.
NRP or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
Bachelors of Nursing preferred.
National nursing certification specific to position preferred.
Ability work independently in a clinical OB nursing role.
Possesses experience in a management or supervisory role preferred.
Experience collaborating with physicians and organizational leadership preferred.
Demonstrated leadership experience in employee management and team building, financial management, clinical and financial information systems, chargemaster, revenue cycle, including quantitative analysis and benchmarking tools preferred.
Experience using Meditech also is highly desired.
Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.
Commitment to working in a team environment and maintaining confidentiality as needed.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed.

Job Specific Duties:
Through the clinical discipline of professional nursing, the Director is accountable for excellence in the clinical practice of nursing and the delivery of patient care on a selected unit(s).
Maintains twenty-four hour accountability with line authority for a patient care unit(s).
Develops and sustains an environment on a patient care unit(s) that supports excellence in clinical nursing practice and patient care through planning and implementing programs that support (optimal) patient care outcome.
Translates institutional values, goals and objectives to staff by example and through effective communication.
Develops unit goals and objectives with input from nursing staff, physicians, health care allies, administrative colleagues and nursing administration.
Delegates authority and accountability to the nursing staff for appropriate clinical nursing practice and patient care decisions which are consistent with professional standards, rules and regulations of governmental authorities and policies of this institution.
Maintains a safe and caring environment for patients and develops mechanisms to assess the response of nursing care from patients and families.
Validates that the nursing care provided to patients is consistent with identified medical regimens.
Establishes unit-based performance improvement programs that support the institution's efforts toward continuous performance improvement.
Remains current in nursing practice through literature review, workshops, professional organizations and incorporates new clinical knowledge in their practice.
Accountable for managing human, fiscal and other resources as well as implementing and managing clinical nursing practice and patient care.
Ensures the appropriate skill mix of staff to support the unit's acuity level through recruitment, hiring, firing, evaluating, counseling and educating with a primary emphasis on staff retention. Participates in the development of the nursing schedule.
Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and serves as a role model to staff.
Prepares monitors and maintains an annual operational and capital budget through managing human and fiscal resources in compliment with the institutions health care policies.
Demonstrates proficiency in the utilization of the institution's information system.
Accountable for facilitating clinical development of licensed and non-licensed nursing and other health care personnel.
Develops programs for their clinical unit to support licensed personnel in learning and enhancing skills and to advance their role and professional development.
Assures both licensed and non-licensed personnel have achieved competency in clinical nursing practice and patient care.
Participates in the development, maintenance and evaluation of the clinical recognition program.
