The Fleet Safety Intern will partner with Fleet Management to work on special projects. During this time the intern will help manage and streamline day to day operations such as accident and injury reporting, reviewing on-road incident triggered video footage, assist with addressing driver-related concerns, and other tasks in conjunction with assigned projects.

Job Details:
  • Complete a minimum of 5 single day ride-a-longs with DG Fleet Drivers.
  • Assist in researching accident and injury trends and developing remedial safety training plans.
  • Involvement in accident review process and exposure to counseling issuance following driver incidents or accidents.
  • Builds strong relationships with drivers and maintenance team through daily interactions or safety briefings/conversations.
  • Conducts daily lot checks of tractor equipment for damages and reports any damage for repair
  • Promotes a culture of safety by evaluating the safety performance of all drivers and identifying training needs.

 

Qualifications:
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated employee relations skills and skills necessary to assist employees in conflict resolution and one-to-one communication.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Undergraduate or graduate business student with/or pursuing major in Supply Chain Management.
  • Solid analytical skills and self-motivated.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to all levels of the organization.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment.
  • Handle multiple activities simultaneously and ensure accurate and timely completion of tasks.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office Tools: Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Must be able to physically move throughout the distribution center to monitor the flow of merchandise.
  • Exposure to dust varied lighting and noise.
  • Some heavy lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, and kneeling may be required to assist employees when necessary
  • May be exposed to extreme heat and cold, including dry van trailers or refrigerator freezers and coolers for extended periods of time
