Manages, mentors, and provides direction to a team of individual contributors within the Tax-Licensing department providing support to the team concerning the filing, processing, and remitting of appropriate license applications and tax payments in accordance with the rules and regulations as prescribed in each jurisdiction. Facilitates and assists with accruals, budgets, and audits. Identifies and implements process improvements based upon business needs.

Job Details:
  • Manages, leads, trains, and mentors team ensuring a balanced, coordinated workload is carried by all team members. Conducts regular performance coaching and annual reviews, developing and implementing process improvements at the individual and team level. 
  • Coordinates and advises across multiple business units, including but not limited to: Merchandising, Store Operations, Legal, Real Estate, and Construction on property tax and licensing matters. 
  • Reviews and approves license applications and tax payments in accordance with company policy. Payments could include but are not limited to: standard A/P checks, EFT and ACH payments, cashier's checks, credit card payments, and the associated reconciliations. 
  • Fully coordinates daily processes with third party law firms for initial alcohol and tobacco licensing and renewals where applicable. Reviews and approves legal fee invoicing and retainer reconciliations. 
  • Works with IT, Leadership, and team to maintain the accuracy and functionality of associated databases. 
  • Facilitates and assists with various audits, accruals, and budgets related to property tax, licensing, EBT, and unclaimed property. 
  • Participates in department leadership initiatives. Communicates, collaborates, and strategizes with members of the leadership team regarding workflow and organizational efforts. Assists with special projects as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, guide, coach and mentor team members for individual and organizational success, conducting performance reviews and facilitating performance improvement plans where needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a team and properly prioritize multiple processes, deliverables, and goals.
  • Ability to set and meet deadlines; effectively delegating tasks and assignments to manage and lead their team.

  • Ability to work proficiently with word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field required. Extensive experience in a related field considered in lieu of a degree. Two to four years of experience within a progressively increasing accounting/finance or operations position. Two to three years of supervisory experience required or equivalent experience in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of general business accounting practices required. Experience in licensing helpful.
