Class Summary: Under very limited supervision performs a variety of electronic design maintenance, installation and repair activities on school equipment. Responsibilities include; audio visual equipment, computer systems, telephones, fax and copy machines, public address systems, television and radio equipment, clocks, scoreboards, fire alarm systems and signal distribution systems.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
Duty No. Essential Duties Frequency Band/Grade 1 Performs troubleshooting procedures to identify defective electronic equipment. Corrects defects by replacing parts, repairing defective parts, building and installing substitute components or designing and initiating alternatives to bypass defects. Daily B2 2 Maintains of District electronic equipment including audio visual, computers, telephones, fax, copiers, public address systems, televisions, master clock systems, scoreboards, security systems and fire alarm systems. Daily B2 3 Order necessary parts and components to support maintenance and repair activities. Shop for best values. Daily A1 4 Designs, manufactures and installs circuit boards and other electronic replacement components. Certifies proper operation within design criteria and accepted industry standards. Daily C4 5 Updates older technology with newer technology by designing, manufacturing, arranging and installing more technically advanced components to replace outdated components. certifies proper operation within design criteria and accepted industry standards. Daily C4/ B2 6 Advises and instructs other District personnel in operation, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment. B2 7 Establishes, certifies and reviews standards for electronic equipment to be purchased and serviced by School district. Daily C4 8 Designs, installs, maintains, evaluates and certifies signal distribution systems. This includes; radio, television, clock and public address. C4 9 Will be required to perform additional duties which result from the maintenance Department's workload and work assigned by the Maintenance Foreman. As Needed
Knowledge: Basics of electrical safety, hand tools, power tools. Safe use of ladders and lifts. Firm grasp of mathematics.
Skills (position requirements at entry): Must know resistor and cabling color code. Know how to use a volt ohm meter, must be able to use hand and power tools in a safe manner.
Training and Experience (position requirements at entry): High School Graduate, two year electronic certificate or four years of practical experience a related field.
Licensing Requirements (position requirements at entry): State of Alaska Drivers License, prefer State of Alaska fire alarm system permit or NICE Certification.
Physical Requirements: Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to distinguish colors, must be able to work at heights, and in close spaces.
