Manager in Development (MID)
The Manager in Development (MID) is a short-term, transitional role designed to provide hands-on experience and training across multiple departments, preparing candidates for future management positions.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with management to build essential leadership skills.
- Rotate through departments such as Operations, Safety, Finance, HR, Maintenance, and Sales to gain a comprehensive understanding of the business.
- Develop partnerships with location and corporate teams.
- Support daily operations and complete assigned projects.
Departmental Learning Areas
Safety:
- Accident prevention, driver training, and compliance with DOT regulations.
Finance & Accounting:
- Manage payroll, accounts payable/receivable, budgeting, forecasting, and P&L analysis.
Operations:
- Oversee dispatch, route scheduling, driver check-ins, and resource deployment.
Maintenance:
- Learn fleet management, preventive maintenance (PM), and regulatory compliance.
Security:
- Implement crisis management, emergency response, and IT security protocols.
Sales:
- Identify sales opportunities, manage bids, and handle customer contracts.
Human Resources:
- Recruit, develop, and manage talent while ensuring compliance with HR policies and labor laws.
Labor Relations:
- Navigate collective bargaining agreements and labor relations in a union environment.
Legal:
- Mitigate legal risks and ensure compliance with contracts and regulatory obligations.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma/GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience:
- 1-2 years of supervisory experience or 3-4 years in transportation/logistics.
- Experience in retail management is a plus.
Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail and active learning abilities.
Other Requirements:
- Valid driver's license.
- Flexibility to work various shifts and relocate within the business region.
