The Director of Product Management has direct responsibility for leading, developing and implementing new product and service offerings, service and technology strategy, offering management process, and market growth opportunities for First Student.They own the end-to-end solution requirements definition, feature prioritization, and solutions integration. They will partner, lead and influence people at all levels of the organization to integrate inputs and develop a distinctive solution roadmap that maximizes growth and return on investment. Product Management will be part of a strong team in a fast-paced environment where agile development is embraced, and innovation is encouraged. The Director of Product Management will define and document service offerings, functional flows and support requirements . Define the product roadmap, manage the product backlog and create detailed business requirements within each product offering, function or support area. This role ensures that the detailed business requirements are traced to the technical solution or design and ensure that the end product meets all quality and functional requirements. Major Responsibilities- Strategy: Own, develop and manage the vision, strategy, commercialization and lifecycle management of the product, offering or solution
- Customer Insight & Innovation: Develop innovative and integrated product and service solutions that are grounded in a deep understanding of customer needs
- New Product Introduction: Define and own the short and long-term product roadmap, including business cases, epics, user stories, customer experience, and delivery. Manage and prioritize the product backlog and sequence them into Sprints.
- Product Delivery: Create user stories, acceptance tests and features granular enough for a single sprint. Accept or reject delivered functionality. Assist with prioritization and resolution of defects. Participate in project planning, daily stand-up meetings (scrums), reviews, retrospectives, sprint and release planning, demos and other Scrum-related meetings.
- Business Growth: Manage the complete business, including establishing key metrics, setting and meeting goals on channel/direct customer growth, customer engagement and retention
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner proactively and successfully with key stakeholders across First Student, as well as build strong relationships with team members
- Communication: Proactively communicate program and team's plans and accomplishments in both verbal and written narratives to ensure alignment with senior leadership
- Drive collaborative culture: Iterate with development teams and stakeholders on trade-offs, balance competing priorities and guide decision making in-line with product and business strategies
Minimum Education or Certifications Required
- BS/BA in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, Management, or other related area, or equivalent experience
Minimum Experience or Skills Required
- 2+ years of experience in leading and working in cross-functional teams developing customer-facing solutions
- Experience working in Agile development environments and use of Jira tools
- Decisive, thorough, and logical approaches in researching and analyzing issues
- Proven ability to understand and solve complex business problems
- Planning, execution, and project-management skills experience
- Excellent teamwork skills and communication skills (particularly written) with the ability to influence within the organization
- Experience developing technology solutions and associated pricing models
- Strong background in both business and technical roles with ability to effectively lead and influence cross-functionally and globally
- Self-starters, able to manage vision and purpose in ambiguous situations
- Proven track record of achievements, delivering measurable results (revenue and margin performance, new market entry)
- Experience in transportation or logistics industries preferred
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Incumbent must be able to move about the office and between floors; utilize standard office equipment; access filing system/cabinets; and communicate effectively and efficiently in person or by video conference/telephone.
